How do you know how much to take? Does it help tremors?Do you need a prescription? Who helps you regulate the dosage?

Dr. Mischley usually does hair mineral analysis and prescribes lithium based on the results. Here is her thesis on lithium and PD:

Smittybear7 Shot in Dark... 5 mg as compared to starting dose of 300 mg for bi-polar, must be safe. Supplement... I am taking swansonvitamins.com/swanson...

I have talk with both my GP and PD doctors.

Someone please check my rusty chemistry but I think the bipolar one is lithium carbonate and the 300mg relates to the whole weight of the lithium carbonate. Low dose lithium the 5 mg relates to just the Lithium part.

Molecular weight of lithium is 7

MW lithium carbonate Li2CO3 is 74 with 14 of that coming from the lithium.

(Compared with MW lithium orotate 162 with only 1 lithium atom so 7 from lithium)

300mg Li2CO3 is 300mg/74 x 14 = 56mg lithium so the dose although lower is not as low as it appears first glance.

5 mg once a day or divided? With or without food? Any other supplements or medications?

LAJ12345 You may be right. I can not word a goggle search to come up with a definitive answer. So, it very well maybe 5 mg vs 56 mg

All of your lithium questions are answered by this book. There's an entire chapter on Parkinson's and Dr Laurie Mischley is cited numerous times .

It does not help much with motor symptoms or sense of smell. Mostly mental clarity and mood, is what I found.

I've been taking 10-15mg /day lithium orotate for about 4 years.

Having taken for 4 yrs, has your PD progressed. It has been indicated to be more of a preventive than a cure. Any help with weakness, balance etc. 5 mg has definitely helped my mood. Are you tested for levels?

I have no issues with weakness and balance. After taking lithium orotate for 2 weeks, I knew that it was working for me when I realized my debilitating brain fog had completely resolved. Coworkers, bosses and others suddenly started complimenting me on how smart I am, something that I never imagined I would hear. From that point until the day I left the workforce, my boss always went around telling people I was the smartest person around. She would quiz the staff at meetings and she would say things like Rob, don't answer all the questions, give someone else a chance first. I would hold back, then when nobody else would know the answers, everyone would look at me and I would have the answer. That was on 9.2mg. At some point , depression became a bit of an issue and I went up to 13.8mg. My depression completely resolved. Backing off my dosage makes my symptoms return within 2 weeks. Anther benefit I get from it includes being able to remember names better. It's been a miracle for me. I'm glad my doctor insisted that I read the book.

Dr. Mischley asked my husband, after a hair analysis test, to take 10mg of LO. It is for mental clarity, not motor symptoms.

yoou know that book I always mention? (see above) Dr Mischley is cited in that book at least 18 times!!!!

LO and Parkinson’s was Mischley’s topic in her MPH dissertation. Type in “lithium orotate Mischley mph pdf” and you’ll find the correct document if interested.

I am taking it(Lithium Orotate) too. It seems to help with anxiety. I stopped it and anxiety returned so I continued my 10 mg/day and it appears to benefit me. I recently was warned that Li increases tremor by Dr. Rogers but that was a remark made without discussion of dosage. The amazing part of Li Orotate is that it really makes quite a difference in how I feel on a daily basis. I am grateful to bassofspades for telling me about it.

I have been taking 5 mg lithium orotate for about two months now. It has done wonders for my mood which means it also increases my motivation!! Have not noticed improvement in tremor however.

Most of what I have read indicates more a preventive than a cure for PD.

No one said it cures! It improves mood and mental clarity.
