2 x spinal surgeries and a history of debilitating permanent chronic pain disability requiring daily medication (Opiate based). Sadly my wife recently left me and within the divorce I am seeking a Financial Order and protection from the courts to support my future needs. I am required to provide an expert report on my medical condition and the undestanding of chronic pain as a disability. I have a 9 year documented history. I am looking to pay for a private assessment and a report to inform the court.

Can anyone please help or point me in the right direct? I can a get a detailed medical history from GP, but I need a professional champion who can assess me in relation to chronic pain, physical, emotional and psychological impact on life, medication (particulalry understanding of Tramadol and Morphine) and chronic pain disability.

Many thanks

Phil

When you go back to your doctor it may be possible to get an appointment Whith an occupational therapist and a phsycologist, If you have been to a pain clinic they may give you a report. The problem with that beacuse it is a report for court some of these specialists may require a fee, If you now have a social worker to look after your needs a report from them may be possible, as they will know what you daily needs are regarding getting dressed, preparing food etc

If you see a psycyatist excuse spelling again with this you may need to pay for the report.

For a report from GP a payment may be required I hope this may help it is all hypothetical although it will put you in the right direction In some instances you doctor will also refer you to

another GP for a second opinion, this is happening more and more although again you will need too pay, possibly for a second opinion. Also some may need to appear in court. In some instance a lawyer specializing in medical law may be advisable That will need to be found by you.

GOOD LUCK

Hi Phil I stumbled upon your question while looking for something else but because I have been through something similar I felt I would try and help. As r bell has said you need to go back to your gp but you need the name of a neurosurgeon or a neurologist who specialises in medico legal work, if you can pay privately then all the better only because you'll get to see them quiicker. Tell them when you ring up for an appointment what you want so they'll give you the time you need, they'll examine you & talk to you about what you can and can't do. The one I had was very good & put in all the social problems I had as far as day to day living was concerned which is why when you ring up you need to tell the secretary why you need to see them. Your gp may also know of psychologists who specialise in chronic pain management, have you been on a pain management course? If so like r bell said they will have written a report about you and sent it to the gp so you can ask for a copy, which will save you a bit of money, but if not then try and get on one because some of them are very good and it will be of some help in the future, normally there are physio's managing the course as well so again if you've been in one a report would have been sent from them too, if not don't go paying for one privately just yet wait and see what your neuro person says.

Hope this is of some help and you manage to get some pain management in place. Take care

Karen
