"You are being invited to take part in research on chronic pain. Chronic pain is pain that lasts for longer than 3 months despite medication or treatment. Myfanwy Williams, Trainee Clinical Psychologist, at the University of Edinburgh is leading this research.
What is the purpose of the study?
The purpose of the study is to explore whether noticing nature is helpful for peoples experiences of chronic pain. Pain rumination is common experience of chronic pain which is linked to making pain worse. Pain rumination is where a person worries about the cause or consequence of their pain. Finding a solution to pain rumination is important as chronic pain can be a lifelong condition, so it is vital we research free and accessible supports for people who experience chronic pain and find out why they might work.
We would appreciate your help with our study which is a questionnaire which thinks about your experiences in the previous week. By taking part and completing the questionnaire you will be entered into a prize draw to win one of eight twenty-five pound vouchers for Amazon or Love-2-shop. You will then be asked to complete some questionnaires, which usually take no longer than 30 minutes to complete.
The thought of spending so long on a questionnaire really [deleted] on my fire.
To spend that long concentrating on one thing aint great for a neurodiverse brain.
I got no problem sharing my experience ... Or lack of NHS care for collapsing spines ... On how even now after 30 years of back issues, we are no closer to treating back issues, than when I had my accident.
Morphine is the only answer for chronic pain, and it doesn't help much. Now a decade of taking it, I have no other options for pain control, as the NHS sees morphine as the final and permanent answer. Trouble is to be strong enough to be good, it means you are completely stoned.
It doesn't help successive governments don't care despite their noises about back pain and issues, yet insist we all get back to work ... I'd love to be working and enjoying a decent income that I can LIVE on, but I can't, and I don't. Back issues are probs the No1 reason for people on disability, yet so little is invested in assisting or helping..
As for nature, I live in on a big city with zero access to nature.
I visit friends in Wales occasionally, and my back still hurts watching nature, and the perfect night skies.
I say of back pain it's like severe toothache.
Initially you are shocked by it, and feel unable to do anything about it. Then it calms and levels out, always there, bit more back ground. If you eat something hot/cold over that tooth it flares to full power again, and you feel shot til it calms.
That's back pain. You get used to your daily normal level, and on those days can do things, yet you still have pain.
Do the wrong thing, and often as simple as just standing in a queue for 5 minutes, and bugger me you want to scream and swear.
I lice by my Moto ... Rest days are not lazy days.
Any of that you can use, but as for filling out loads of forms, it's a no from me.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I just wanted to send a gentle message that the researchers’ questionnaire is completely optional. I note your comment that questionnaires can be challenging for neurodiverse people and I will pass this on to the researcher. Often the researcher doesn’t see the Health Unlocked forum as we post on their behalf and they aren’t always a member.
I also wanted to get in touch around your pain management comments. You may like to sign up to one of our Pain Education sessions ow.ly/bz3450SZb7g or look at our other resources on our website such as our ‘Manage Your Pain’ painconcern.org.uk/product/... for some additional ways to manage pain.
I have amended your post to delete the swearing (and keep it within the community guidelines). I wanted to leave your post up as your experiences and feelings are valid so this way I didn’t have to delete the whole post.
I do hope that some of the above resources are helpful for you to manage your pain.
