well lately I have posted so many issues and complaints, but so depressed and fed up with body pain so severe on wakening, I have been diagnosed with osteo, hip , back especially, mow hands. But when I first get ip in am, I feel like have been run over by truck, sit in edge of bed try some stretching, have bkfast etc, take meds, but as day goes on, body hurts less, even until I go to bed, so is it laying still, sleeping at night(up 3-4 times to bathroom), so does anyone with osteo arthritis feel like this for at least first hour if day, I always have some body pain through day, but not like I do first thing in morning, sometimes wonder is it my matress, is it my body pillow, any like experiences would like to hear about thank you

Severe body hurting on wakening
Have you seen a rheumatologist? They say that if the pain and stiffness lasts beyond 30 minutes then it may be something else. They say that if it lasts beyond 30 minutes in the morning then it might be rheumatoid arthritis or something similar to that. So it would be worth seeing a rheumatologist.
I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis, and I find that it takes me an hour or so to really get going, and the swelling in my hands doesn't really go away at all anymore.
I would invest in a new mattress.
Very standard
As we are active all day, and then 8 hrs of laying down, our bodies have to wake up too
So an hour or so each morning our bodies are recovering from being laid on.
For the last 5 years I sleep mostly in a reclining chair. I do visit the bed some nights, and on average get between 45 minutes, and 1½ hours sleep in a bed, then I'm in pain, and wide awake.
I still take a while to come round, but I just get on average a better sleep.
I have tried a mattress topper (the one who keeps advertising ALL the time).
INITIALLY I found it helped, but now a year later, back to usual levels.
I am considering a full memory mattress, and see if it being far far thicker makes a difference????
It might be something you could try.
Their base level topper is around £100 which makes it fairly affordable. I appreciate that not everyone has £100 to spend ... I certainly didn't for years.
Good luck to you.
Hi arvine, I have Osteoarthritis in my spine. I also have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and some other issues.I have tried everything, replaced my mattress twice and had various toppers before that. My morning stiffness and pain has definitely worsened over the last few months to a year and nothing helps.
I use an electric heat pad on my back first thing but it takes me nearly two hours after moving from my bed to a recliner to be able to get on with stuff like easy housework and a short walk or gentle exercise.
I'm due to see my GP at the end of the month and going to talk to her about it. The pain clinic doctor gave me muscle relaxants but they didn't really help much and made my muscles quite weak.
Sorry I have no tips for you but you are definitely not alone with this.
I was told that worsening pain and stiffness could be a sign of something else like an inflammatory arthritis. I'm thinking of asking for a referral to a rheumatologist.
My head is wrecked trying to figure it out.
Maybe have a chat with your GP.
Best of luck
well thank you all sounds so familiar, I have a rheumy, not very helpful, my mornings are a wrote off, have IBS ans spastic colon, of course aging contributes to all these kinds of issues I think, vicious corcle, got to keep moving but pain limits you,
I agree we really do need to keep moving, my pain is worse if I don't.Pain does limit us and for me sometimes it feels like a never-ending battle, aging does contribute I suppose, it's depressing at times.
I had a rheumy 10 years ago but when he diagnosed me eventually with Fibromyalgia and Osteoarthritis he discharged me back to my GP.
Since then I have had other health issues and diagnosed with psoriasis also, so I think I need to see him again. Probably about a 2 year waiting list.
I've come to the conclusion though that it's whatever I have that's causing the extreme morning pain and not investing in anymore mattress toppers or mattresses!
Let's hope we get some answers. In the meantime we keep going.
Take care
yes I have that issue too. All part of the condition and just have to adapt to the limitation I have found.
I have spinal cord injuries and osteoporosis plus kyphosis. In the past couple of years - my sleeping tablets no longer cover night pain and it’s terrible early morning - so I really understand how dreadful it can be. I hope you can find some way of improving this - so it’s more tolerable for you.
