Earthing/grounding bedsheets

Do these work? Seen them advertised and claim to improve sleep and reduce inflammation and pain while you sleep. Basically they are bedsheets with silver or carbon thread throughout with an electrical cable connected - only the earth wire is used within a standard 3-pin plug. It is said to earth you and create positive ions. I thought this sounded like hogwash put have found some scientific research papers on it with positive results. Anyone tried them for good or bad?

Am sorry but I am very cynical about such things. I would have thought if they worked then there use would be widely known. Also I would want to know what research papers you have seen and more importantly where they are published.

Well said! I'll be slightly less diplomatic, it's piffle and poppycock. Most of the positive reviews seem to be from people concerned with the retail of these items, if you press on however you get to actual scientists and organisations who debunk their claims.

I use the organic bed sheet from Rowlands. Helps me. I have fibromyalgia osteoporosis olp auto immune and degenerate disc lower back. I definitely notice more pain and less sleep when I don't use it. I too was sceptical at first but I was desperate to find some relief. All I can say is it definitely helps me.

As an academic researcher, I have just checked and I can't find any high level scientific research that supports this. Most of the studies use very few people, are not blinded so subject to confirmation bias, and use subjective self reported outcomes, and are not published in good quality peer reviewed journals.

However, if you want to try it, it is unlikely to harm you.

I've heard about these. I even watched a "documentary" about grounding/earthing. What I'd say is, in this documentary, they claimed that even just putting your feet to the ground would help. Obviously in the UK it's not practical at this time of year. But in the summer, what would it hurt, if you are physically able, to sit on a bench outside without shoes and have your feet make contact with the grass or whatever. Cost free, provided you can physically manage it of course. I'd try that before spending out money on anything I think. If you do decide to try it, please come back and let us know - thanks! :-)
