Ever since the government war on opioids, making pharma to put chemicals in pain meds, they haven't worked like they use to,they make me sick. People r turning to street drugs to get relief cause they're doctors r more scared of the medical board then quality of life for people in pain and who suffers, they tell u to just deal with it or your getting older and if your over 60 you can be trusted taking benzos. It makes me sick

Yes, Abuse "Proof" Opioids is a good idea. I started on Hydrocodone 3 years ago for back pain. Prior to that in 2017, I was in the hospital for 3 weeks for an autoimmune disease and was given Norco. What I know about this drug is that it comes in 3 strengths, 5 mg, 7.5, and 10. I recently watched a documentary on Netflix about the Sackler family and Oxycontin, the drug that spurred the opioid abuse epidemic. That drug starts at 20 mg and has doses at 40, 80, and 160 mg. That's a hell of a lot more than Hydrocodone and it's slow release. The opioids fall under 1 of 3 categories: Phenanthrenes (Morphine, Hydrocodone, Codeine, Oxycodone, Heroin); Diphenylheptanes (Methadone); Phenylpiperdines (Fentanyl).

Opiates an the like were only ever intended for short term use in people with a terminal illness. eg cancer

They were never ever intended to be used as and when on a daily basis and certainly not for years and years.

With good pain relief experienced when used on people who were not terminally ill the results are as seen over the last 20/30 yrs. Higher doses and stronger meds were needed as the body got used to them

No alternative to these drugs has yet bee invented andm sadlym with the abuse of them coming from the USA most were withdrawn

This I felt was wrong. Someone in chronic pain is only ever going to get worse and without these strong opiates what was the alterative? There isn't one.

Acupuncture, epidurals, pphysio etc all have there place alongside these drugs and not instead off.

"Someone in chronic pain is only ever going to get worse" Please keep such BS to yourself, many many people with chronic pain including me have gotten better, such negative messages can seriously discourage people.

Good reply Scotsman 53 , some opioids can help people, recover to a better quality of life, when the pain is more controlled you can do a little more which helps physically and Psychologically. I think you’re being unfair Bananas 5 , we are all different and Scotsman 53 doesn’t quote any particular diagnosis, like most things some people will be helped and the unfortunate ones with more severe diagnosis will not so much. I don’t know if you know this Banana 5 , but small doses of Morphine are used to help people with respiratory diseases, as it helps them to breathe easier. Interesting discussion!!

Don't go to street drugs! That never ends well.Use your prescription to keep ahead of your pain. Are you seeing an oncologist? They understand . Talk to them about your pain.

Unfortunately NO doctors will prescribe pain medication for those like myself in severe pain 24/7. I have bad osteoarthritis in both knees. In the past six months my right knee has drastically gotten worse. My leg from the knee down is bent out of shape and slants to the right. I can’t walk steady after sitting even for just 5 minutes. My knee constantly gives out and feels like someone is hammering my knee and stabbing it at the same time. I wake up jolting from pain in my knees. I can’t take anti inflammatories due to stomach issues. I’ve had injections and also had athroscopic surgery on both knees. The last doctor I saw told me my right knee is so severe the only remedy is a knee replacement. Then he went on to tell me that I am too young for a knee replacement. I am 45. So basically I left that office in tears with no real hope of ever getting relief. Sometimes going to the streets is the only way to get a little relief to be able to do normal everyday things. It’s very sad and discouraging.

I was responding to your comment about chronic pain, but in fact CRPS can certainly improve, particularly with early diagnosis. In one study 74% experienced complete remission of symptoms.
