Oramorph and codeine- how far to space them out?

I have been prescribed oramorph for a week after emergency surgery, can take it every 2-4 hours. It doesn’t really help with pain too much. I was taking tramadol in hospital too, but haven’t got any of that to come home with. I’ve got codeine at home and wondered if I can take some in the same day? I wouldn’t take it at the same time as I know codeine is metabolised into morphine in the body. But wondered if I could take it at some point in the same day and how far to space it out if I can?

Really the best person and for quickest answer is to speak to your pharmacist/chemist. They will definitely know the answer to your question.

I too have a lot of back pain and I have oramorph as and when the pain is at its worst just to ease quickly but it's not a lasting drug I also have shorttec codone 10mg which I can take 4 times a day but try to limit the use of as they are supposed to be very addictive but I am 79yrs how addictive can one get as sometimes I'm climbing the walls, so taking the oramorph a couple of hours after the codeine which I have had in the past I would have thought was ok but you can check with a pharmacist. When I had my hip done the hospital gave me oromorph and paracetamol together as the paracetamol act with breakthrough pain because of my back problems.
