Hi

Please can anyone recommend brand mattress for a side sleeper with sciatica and back pain. My weight is about 58 kg.Should it be medium firm or soft ? Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation with us. I am sorry to hear about the pain in your back.

I am not qualified to provide you with specific advice. I would suggest you consult an occupational health therapist, and physiotherapist to seek their advice, and support about suitable mattresses.

Personally, I have heard stories about people with pain sometimes using a firm hard mattress, although I guess everyone is different. I hope you get the best help and support possible.

Best wishes

Hi, I’ve previously done tonnes of research on this and I found a really good company “John Ryan by Design”. I went with the 100% latex (fusion 3) but the model depends on your weight which the company can advise on. I’ve had various back issues, prolapsed disc, sciatica etc, and my bed, 7 years later, is still amazing. I literally don’t know what I would do without it, it’s the best purchase of my life! Good luck.

Hi Telmanchicks mattresses do play a big part in comfortable sleep when you have pain problems especially back ones. It all depends on how much you can afford for this item , a good quality orthopeadic firm mattress is usually the cheapest option . The mattress I use costs around £800 pound to replace. But does last a long time. Shop around and compare with online product prices , maybe someone else will come up with more answers for you. God luck in your search.

I purchased a firm orthopaedic mattress from Dreams that took a little while to get used to but is great now.Is difficult to advise because mattress can be such an individual thing. Ideally go to a shop so can try different mattresses. Also if possible get one with “money back guarantee “ so if doesn’t suit can try a different one.

Totally the opposite to most advice you will ever receive. I slept in a friends spare bed and it was bliss. A memory foam mattress. Many good ones have offers of all of your Monaco if you don’t like it so you can’t loose really. I’ve never been a back sleeper but on this it’s great. Try different numbers of pillows etc. But most of all relax and float away.

I have a memory mattress, so comfortable and soft. I also have a body pillow which is brilliant for me as I had spinal fusion recently. plenty of soft pillows underneath your legs give your back support. Lovely sleep.
