Blocked salivary duct.

This is my first post on this very informative site. Has anyone any experience of blocked salivary duct? For two weeks I have had pain and swelling under my jaw and left ear when I eat. I look like a lop sided hamster with mumps! It doesn’t last long and sometimes I can massage it away but it is quite painful at the time. Any advice please on home remedies? I haven’t gone down the route of seeking medical advice yet as it isn’t an emergency!

Hi Beaty1, In my early 20 [40 years ago] I suffered from a blocked salivary Gland, I think it was called "Warton's Duct" The smell of cooking caused the hamster effect as you say. I was sent for an xray and on that it was so obvious that the cause was 3 "stones" were in the duct Looking like 3 more teeth under my tongue. I attended minor injury dept and the consultant anesthetized the area under my tongue and put several ling stitches in. A nurse pulled on them to open the gland and the "stones " were removed. This took about half an hour of my lunch break and then I returned to work. Not had any problems since.I know not everybody is the same, but I would encourage you to see a doctor as maybe a modern remedy may be available.

I have Sjögren’s Beaty which causes my salivary glands to get blocked , its good to know what is causing it. You should have a chat with your dentist or gp as well. Best wishes, i hope things improve!
