Chronic lower abdomen pain which seems to be a result of epididymis inflammation.

Hello everyone!

I’m 29yo guy doing my best to stay as healthy as possible. Unfortunately...

I’m currently facing fhe following problem.

Chronic abdomen pain which begun a couple of years ago as a severe back and lower abdomen pain + epididymis inflammation. After curing symptoms of the latter, the constant feeling of discomfort/pain is with me almost every single day. It gets worse when I do some physical activity which includes my abdomen muscles. Dozens of medical exams didn’t bring any clues what’s going on (besides of MRI showing some spine discopathy (between L4&L5). Pain gets worse when I press on my belly but fades away after a couple of minutes of pressing that area. Physiotherapy seemed to help but only for a few hours after the session.

Before those issues begun I’ve been pretty active (gym and running almost every day), eating healthy, ocasionally drinking alcohol. I’ve been going through some tough times in my life (death has taken away the most loved person of my life) + I faced a lot of stress related to my career life. Staying active helped me chasing away the dark clouds over my head. When I couldn’t run anymore (because of the pain) I felt devastated and totally depressed. I’m currently on anti-depressants and I have mixed feelings about their efectiveness (it’s been almost a year of me taking the prescribed doses very consequently).

I honestly hope that noone else faces these issues as they can completely f***k up your entire life and flip everything upside down.

But if you have any ideas what can I do and where can I look for help to resolve this issue, I’d love to hear that.

Thank you!

Much love, R.

There is mounting evidence that depression can be caused by inflammation. I wonder if that is what is happening with you?

Have you seen a gastroenterologist?

One of the reasons why the pain might get worse when you press and then fade away is that pain is interpreted by our brain, and it might be that you brain is habituating the acute pain when you press on your belly and stops processing it after a little while.

I find this happens when doctors examine me. They press on various places as ask if it hurts, but if they keep pressing or come back to that area, it stops hurting because my brain says that there is no injury, no reason to keep thinking that there is any pain there.

Not yet. I've been checked by an orthopaedist, urologist and radiologist (who's been describing my MRIs). They all seem to have their own version of what is causing the problem so it led me to more confusion than I've had before...

As frustrating as it is, there is a lot of uncertainty in medicine. And with everyone in their own silos they all have their own expertise. It is a rare doctor that can put everything together to find the answer.

Is the pain constant or comes and goes? I ask because I had a one in a million condition apparently. My cecum ( part of the bowel where the appendix is) torsioned and I would have died had I not had emergency surgery. I had really bad pains on and off for donkeys years but it would twist and then untwist somehow. I had so many scans and had been to a &e but was just lucky that the last time they did a CT and discovered that part of my bowel was necrosis. Just a random thought.

It's constant. Dull and continuous pain which worsens when I'm sitting for a longer period of time or when stress occurs. I wouldn't say it's a debilitating pain at the moment but it's constant. I've basically had to learn to live with it.

HI Reinhardt. ... your pain sounds exactly like pain I had for years..... 15 years actually

After spending huge amounts of money privately seeing Consultants for MRI scans, XRays, injections, etc etc .. I was finally prescribed AMITRIPTYLINE

( Antidepressant) by a

Gastroenterologist !

He explained the pain started of course for some specific reason .. but had forgotten to switch itself OFF again after the situation was resolved .... and now Intervention was needed to stop the signal from the brain Allowing the pain to stay switch ON

He told me to take the drug to see how it could work for me ... I said BUT IM NOT DEPRESSED !

He said ...

we Discovered from people taking this drug FOR depression, that some, who also had chronic pain , reported that their pain had “ disappeared “.

I didn’t really want to take them as

I’m OPPOSED to taking chemicals if unnecessary!

..... result ?

PAIN GONE !!

... and I hadn’t realised it , but so was the accompanying mild depression !

Explain that to your Doctor and ask him to give you a trial .. maybe 5/10mgs per day , to see how it goes for you If you’re interested

But first , Google it to see HOW it works for Pain.

ie... AMITRIPTYLINE for pain

Best of Luck

Thanks Madge and I’m happy for you you’re pain free now.

I’m currently on Velaxin ER prescribed by a psychiatrist. One year so far but I do not see much change to be honest. Anxiety levels are on a more acceptable levels though and I sleep better. I’ll ask about medication you’ve suggested.

Please do ask ... Reinhardt ... because there is much written about. AMITRIPTYLINE. and it’s efficacy ... I can absolutely recommend it .. I suffered badly with my lower abdominal pain and now it’s just a memory .. but be sure to read about its achievements!

Good Luck ☘️
