I have got an ongoing pain down the left side of my back and have been for an X-ray after my doctor thought it was a kidney problem, but nothing was found. The pain is stopping me from doing housework in the day and is very uncomfortable when lying in bed. I have been told a while ago that I have osteoporosis and suffer with lower back pain.

X-rays show problems with bones, and a little bit of soft tissue problem, but they won't show problems with muscles, tendons or some joint problems. Have you seen a physio? They might be able to tell if it is muscular. With problems in the back there is also something called referred pain where the pain is felt in a different part of the body to where the problem is. The muscles and tendons in the back are really complicated and they all link together. I hope you can find some relief soon, finding out what is causing the pain may help with that.
I was told I had 'low back pain' but it wasn't until I pushed for an appointment with rheumatology that we found out what was causing it.
