Still waiting for surgery: Hi all I'm new on... - Pain Concern
Still waiting for surgery
Hi Bubba, My PSP was diagnosed nearly 4 yrs ago. Sciatica also started about 4 yrs ago. Osteopath, Pilates exercises and other stuff all help but it still hurts. I am Male aged 79, waiting 3 yrs for TURP (prostate) surgery on NHS. My turn came up last Monday - but after some discussion the surgeon said he needs more tests done, and it may not be a suitable op for me having PSP. Seems that PSP impacts the nerve system around the bladder area (and others), so Monday was a damn waste of time. But may be it was a blessing, and perhaps I dodged a bullet? So make sure your operating team are aware you have PSP, and have checked out the implications for a sciatica op. Take the lead in this, as information is not always passed on in the NHS. I alerted them, and maybe that's when they took it seriously. Best wishes. Timbow
Cheers mate sorry to hear about your experience I had surgery 4yrs ago on the left side now it's on the right . I'm trying to hold off of the really strong painkillers but if it gets any werse I might have to ask for stronger than cocodomol I have an injection (anti tnf ) once a week for my ankylosing spodelitus so not sure what else they can give me thanks for your reply mate π
Hi Bubba, I take it you have had an MRI as you know you have a prolapsed/ herniated disc. I had one leading to slow onset CE. This was picked up on the MRI and operated on swiftly. If it is not CE than you can actually live with a prolapsed disc without too much danger. Obviously donβt do anything out of the ordinary. Just make sure you walk and you may even find that it resolves itself. If you are unsure you can ask your consultant via his secretary if there is any danger and what signs to look out for.
Hi Emma the thing is I can only walk about 20 steps it's really painful and I'm good with pain I had an epidural 3months ago so but it hasn't worked I'm trying phisio at home until I get the go ahead for surgery thanks for your reply π
Know all about the excruciating pain that comes with it. Had many spinal injections, denervations and 4 ops. As I said the first op was an emergency because of CE. After that it managed to extrude again 3 times (now it is fused) but not to a CE level. It was horrendously painful and walking was near impossible. The reason I say walk is that it has proven to help. Physio never did it for me really. I find Alexander Technique helps. Hope your surgery date will be soon. π
I can suggest natural supplements like Curcumin, Passionflower ( both for pain ) , and Valerian tablets at bedtime.
I hope you get sorted soon .... I'm waiting for knee surgery and getting really worn down from the waiting and the pain.
I am still waiting for my surgery since March 2021 My first operation was meant to be March 2020 but due to covid got cancelled so had it done in August 2020. But due to road accident it undid all the work what the surgeon did so I am in a caliper at the moment and been diagnosed with CRPS. So I know how you feel
I am taking zapian at the moment dosage is meant to be 8 a day but due to the pain I am taking double that each day. Was on tramadol but they did not work
