Sore toe

I know this sounds trivial but although I have a lot of pain (due to peripheral neuropathy in feet and legs) which I can bear, the nail on my right big toe is peeling off and the toe underneath looks infected - the pain is indescribable. I have had this before and it involved a long podiatry attendance ,anti- biotics etc. I was wondering if anyone can advise how i can help myself without having to resort to the Medics etc.

Sorry but sounds to me that you need to contact gp ASAP. You know treatment you had before and what it involves. If infected no other choice. The sooner you start treatment the sooner treatment will work!

I would be requesting an urgent appointment with gp tomorrow. However if unbearable I would phone 111 who may be able to contact out of hours service for you.

Any infection must require treatment , possibly antibiotics .

I agree with the others, if it is infected you need to have it seen too immediately. But once that is sorted you need to think about what the underlying reasons are for the problem, as that might change how you can self care.
