I have been prescribed Sevredol (Morphine) 10mg twice a day for breakthrough pain. Recently I have been needing double the amount or more to see me through the day.
Is 40mg per day too much and does it have any effects on your stomach/liver/kidneys?

You really need to talk to medic who originally prescribed medication. Taking extra of any prescribed medication shouldn’t be done. Could be dangerous to take double (or as you say more) and shouldn’t be done. It maybe fine but you shouldn’t continue without speaking to your doctor.
Thanks for your reply,
I am making a phone call tomorrow, not the easiest option these days getting to see the GP.
You probably won’t get a face to face gp appointment but that won’t matter. You can have a telephone appointment and if gp needs to see you they will give you an appointment.Depending on how your surgery works might be few days before you get appointment but pleased you going to make appointment.
One thing I do to get through to appointments. I start phoning exactly (or few seconds before) 8am then each time get engaged tone literally hang up and dial again. Keep going until I get through!!
I agree with what others have said. A lot depends on your history with opiods. I think GPs will look at matrifen patches for baseline pain and severdol for breakthrough pain but they seem very reluctant to go above the 10mg twice a day dose. They seem much happier to provide a much higher dose in the patch because its less open to abuse. Good luck you should not have to live your life in pain and for some opiods are the only option. However, your gp/pain clinc should be the ones setting the dose.
