Costochondritis, I was diagnosed on Saturday, the pain is in my side though further down from under my armpit towards my back, it's getting worse, getting in and out of bed is agony of in out if chair, even reaching across a small distance to get something or carrying a cup, I can't get dressed, it's now moved further down my back also.
I thought costochondritis was connected to the chest and sternum area?
I'm wondering whether to get a second opinion?

Generally costochondritis describes an inflammation of the cartilage between the ribs and the sternum, but the pain from it can be referred down the side and around the back. There are also muscles between each rib, and they may be going into spasm causing you further pain.
But if you are really worried that there is something else going on, and that your original complaint isn't getting better despite doing what ever they told you to do about it, then it would be worth at least talking to them again if you can.

That is exactly where I get my costo pain the worst. Try not to tighten up gentle stretching may help. Before we moved and could onky have a shower fitted I used to have a good soak in the bath with handfuls of Epsom salts and that seemed to help relax the area. Some people find warmth helps but I am actually better with a cold spray. I found painkillers didn't touch it but if you can tolerate them antiinflamatory drugs may help but have them after a meal. You have my sympathy. X
That is where I get my pain too. Is yours like a nagging pain like someone is poking at your ribs? I feel mine is more sharp and annoying than dull pain.
