My doctor has suggested I go on to Duloxetine for pain and anxiety i am on BuTec patches and Citatalopram at the moment but neither is helping and I am feeling very unwell, I have reduced the BuTec down to 5 mg and hopefully stopping it all together in a couple of weeks, I have been on a Citalopram for many years and I am worried about the side effects of reducing and stopping it all together,I am 77 years old lady and suffer from Neuropathy and osteoporosis and have no balance,I was worried if anyone has had any experience of coming of these two meds to start Duloxetine.

Am unable to advise re comings off medications but it might be useful to discuss with your pharmacist if you need to have totally come off them before starting duloxetine.

What I would say is duloxetine (for me) helps me massively with nerve pain.

hi I am sorry to hear you are struggling. I was on citalopram for years and it helped me with anxiety and low mood. I was weaned off it and put on duloxetine go up to 90mg. I did not find it helped me with pain or mood and experienced side effects such as dizziness, nausea , so for me it was not a good change and I am now weaning if duloxetine to go on escitalopram, but we are all different and duloxetine may suit you

hi Lululemon22

I need the Duloxetine for nerve and chronic pain as well as Anxiety ,I am at the moment getting nothing from BuTec and citalopram apart from side effects even though I have been on both for a long time,I recently broke my wrist and have also been told that I have Osteoporosis ,I am sorry it didn’t work for you and I wish you well for the future.

Hi! I am sorry to hear how unwell you feel. I was on citalopram (amitryptiline/gababpentin/zapain also) I was scared to come off the gabapentin and citalopram but hand in heart it worked amazingly well for me! That being said everyone is different … I have been on duloxetine since 2019 and last year had to add Butec 5 to my pain management regime. I do suffer with depression but duloxetine seemed to handle it - I call it my 3 way miracle - muscle pain/depression/bone pain it covered the whole lot. Wishing you well for the future x

I have taken both of the medications you are talking about. Cymbalta in particular did not help with my nerve pain. Lyrica has been more helpful. Cymbalta increased my hot flashes. I’m 55. I also have severe pain and treat it differently than your doctor but I go to a specialist for pain. Also the meds you are talking about are for depression primarily??

hi I’m not to sure about the medication that your on so I can only tell you my personal experience

I was on sertraline for many year due to anxiety and low mood then about a year ago I got a diagnosis for fibromyalgia I had trouble with sleep, lots of pains and bowel trouble all linked to fibromyalgia, I already see a specialist as I’ve also got lupus which I’ve had since I was 20, my specialist suggested duloxtine and because it’s in the same family as sertraline as such I was able to make a straight over switch, it has worked really well with me when I was able to get on the right dosage 120mg, I sleep soo much better and don’t walk around feeling like a zombie anymore and I’m no where near as anxious, good luck it’s all about getting on the right medication for you so I hope you start to feel better soon 🥰
