Don’t think age ie elder abuse has anything to do with this. I know GPs are being pushed to reduce painkiller meds BUT I think it is absolutely disgusting to do this with no consultation with yourself. I would be very angry and upset. Suggest you book an appointment ASAP to discuss. Probably have to do via phone but don’t see that as an issue here. IF no happier following consultation maybe need to speak to Practice Manager about formal complaint! Really hope you get some clarity after Gp consultation.
Hello Sorohan, it is quite common for doctors to alter painkillers without patient consultation. Even nurses sometimes change them without asking doctors about the safety for a particular patient. I don't agree with this way myself as it controvenes the informed consent right of a patient. You must ring up and ask for a medicine reveiw appointment to be able to discuss it with the GP. Beware also that the older we get the more the GP has to consider lower doses of any drug. But just changing them is a bit much and is not the same as altering the dosage is it ?
Thanks for your replyI agree with your both
I was prescribed the Co-codamol by the chronic pain management clinic and I have no side effects
So I am very upset that my g/p choose to alter my medication and put me on Nortriptyline which has a lot more side effects than Co-codamol
