There are many different benign things that can happen with the heart, that are not dangerous, but very annoying.
Several years ago I started getting what we called flip flops, because that is what it felt my heart was doing every 3 or 4 beats sometimes. And I was getting those strong but normal rate heart beats too. I looked for patterns and it seemed to be when I was also releasing adrenaline.
My GP explained that it was likely I had ectopic heart beats and sent me off to cardiology to see if there was anything causing it. I went though the tests and there was nothing.
So I just avoided the things that I found caused it for me. That was low blood sugar levels, so I tried to eat smaller but more regular meals, and making sure when it was cold I wore my coat outside because strangely enough, that was one of the triggers!
So if you are unsure about what is going on, have a chat with your GP just to assure yourself what the cause is. But it probably isn't serious, just annoying!
