Covid and holidays

I never know what group I can chat on about particular advice but anyway.. so many people have started going abroad on holiday again although covid is still around. I personally think it’s still dangerous and I wouldn’t go. But what do others here think? Is it safe enough? Is it about time we got back to normal life alittle maybe? I have friends who are going turkey

I don't understand the desperate need to go on holiday, here or abroad, why risk spreading and bringing the virus back. I live in rural South West and the hoards of visitors are really not welcome, traffic jams have been ridiculous and the mess and rubbish left behind for locals to clear up is disgraceful, selfish people 😡

Nothing will be 100% safe for a long time, this virus hasn't gone away and won't do so for a very long time. So people have to make their own personal decisions about risk.

For example I am a single parent caring for my disabled adult son. We have no other family other than his father which is a key worker and lives elsewhere. If I get the virus and can't take care of my son no one else can, and if he gets the virus he is likely to become extremely ill. So for me, the risks of the virus are still very high, so we only go out if we have to. yesterday it was to get a tyre fixed, top up with petrol. Next week we will take a trip to the butcher and fill the deep freeze with meat. After that the only reasons for us to go out will be medical appointments and to get our flu jab.

On the other hand my son's father works at a desk job that is essential, so his company has provided a lot of things to keep the employees safe. He is given masks, and the building is constantly cleaned and people can be tested. If he gets ill he has some food in the house, but doesn't have to take care of anyone else. His risk levels are different to ours. He went to the pub for a meal last week.

So we all have to make our own decisions as to what risk we are willing to take.

As to holidaying abroad, I agree, virus or no virus, it really isn't a necessary thing and has contributed to climate change. I would personally like to see those holidays become a once-in-a-lifetime privilege rather than be seen as an annual right.
