Costocondritus

Morning all,

I've been in tremendous pain this past fortnight with this awful costocondritus. I've been popping ibuprofen in me every few hours to try and ease the pain. I was on naproxen but have had to rest from them as it was affecting my kidneys. I the ibuprofen last for such a minimal time, and feel all this popping pills is doing more damage. I'm waiting to see the pain clinic, however due to covid19 this wont be anytime soon. I don't want to call the doctor because of all that's going on in the world. Has anyone with costocondritis get relief using other methods to ease pain and spasms.

I’m 24, I’ve had my fair share of chest and lung issues/infections, rib pains along with mid back pain and neck stiffness all at once. When I went to check with the doc regarding my neck and back, I found out that I had minimal scoliosis that is secondary to some other health issue so they gave me something called Baclofen (aka Lioresal) and it honestly helped me be able to patient with the left over discomfort until I felt better. I keep it now in my medicine cabinet, just Incase I get another flare up..

Try asking a pharmacist if they give it to you over the counter, because here where I’m from, it’s OTC. Hope you get well soon..and keep us updated.

P.s I apologize for not providing any alternative solution because non of the holistic approaches helped much for me at least..

I am so sorry. I have MS and am no stranger to pain but when I got pleurisy I was howling with pain. I ended up in the hospital for 5 days. I couldn't breathe because it hurt and my oxygen was so low. I have no answers for you but I feel for you!

Thanks for your support. X

I have found cannabinoid oil incredibly helpful, almost as much as my opiates. I use a Medipen so I can use it as and when. Baths, hot water bottle or ice can be helpful. Some people find a tens machine helpful and you can buy one online. One of the strongest otc painkillers you can buy is paramol because it has dihydrocodeine in it although a lower amount than on prescription. I also use visualisation to manage my pain, for example I see my pain has a black spikey ball that I either put cotton wool on the ends of the spikes or melt it down. I hope you can find some relief.

The ibuprofen will affecting your kidneys like the naproxen, they are both NSAIDs. They can also do damage to your stomach and give you ulcers.

I used to be on steroids for mine as it never really went away. I've written before and somebody said you can't get it over there but perhaps ask. I take Joncia now and since then I have not had one bout of costochondritis.

Unbeknown to your Drs you could have a vitamin D & Vitamin B12 deficiency which destroys the nerves anywhere in the body .It can cause burning ,tingling ,numbness, spasms ,memory loss ,falls, fibromyalgia, tinnitus ,gut disorders & mental conditions like anxiety, depression, psychoses ,dementia.Ask for your levels to be checked including magnesium ,folate & iron .A serum vitamin b12 below 450 requires treatment.

Thank you for your feedback. I have suffered anemia since my first child on and off for 30yrs, but never have it checked. I certainly will do once we are fingers crossed, back to normal life. Thank you and stay safe x
