Costocondritus

I've been suffering costocondritus for quite some time. I've been diagnosed with this condition and use zapain as pain relief. For the past few months it just doesn't seem to want to give me a break. I now have a cough which is giving me chronic spasms in my back. The slightest twinge and I I carnt move. Does anyone have this condition the same. It's so painful and its putting years on my lifestyle, it just keeps dragging me down.

Hi Rukhsana, totally agree with you, I'm not one for pills or going to the doctors but I've been having lots of pain with the costocondritis. I was on naproxen but they were affecting my liver so hence the zapain. Thanks for letting me know.

Have you asked you GP if they would give you a steroid injection. X

Hi, no I've not asked about steroid injection maybe its something to ask. I've been referred to a pain clinic but as yet still waiting for an appointment.

I've never known anything like costocondritus, it just comes when you least expexct it. I had it really bad last week which put me off work I called doctors to say I'd got a cough which was causing me to have severe spasms, I just couldn't move, I've been in bed for 3 days, today being my first day up. I couldn't get to the surgery so I was told go back on naproxen for 1 week only and that if I still had a cough to ring back in a week.

I'm not sure apart from doctors saying what costocondritus is, that they know what to prescribe. the pain is so excruciating I'd go through child birth any day than suffer from this.

When I had it, I thought I had a heart attack. I went to A&E on the advice of 111, they thoroughly examined me and advised not. They didn’t come up with any explanation either. I managed to see my GP who dx costocondritus, I have RA among other health problems. I was already on an anti inflammatory and steroids, so. I upped them for a short while, he said if it doesn’t improve after a month to go back and he would give me an injection. It was a lot better so didn’t have one. I also got it a year later, not as bad and again it saw its course out. It’s very scary so I would see if this is a suitable option for you. All the best x
