I have. Suffered for years with this unpleasant feeling in my feet. I did have major surgery on my back many years ago and just took it as something which I have just put up with. Have been several times to my doctor and to the local hospital but was only given pads for my shoes . I do manage to go swimming and tend to walk till out of my depth then swim the rest of the way. This only lasts 15 mins or so then I feel the tightness in my ankles and then I start to drag my legs behind me. I am no 85 and fit apart from this horrible feeling. Any more suggestions Thanks,

Hi there,

I also had back surgery, 4 years ago, and developed foot (mainly left) pain directly after the surgery which I still suffer from now. It was never really explained to me why by the surgeon and my own research suggests that anytime surgical procedures are done on the back where muscles, tissues are cut, and bones are removed, retracted and screwed into, the nerves and cord (depending on location of surgery) can get damaged resulting in chronic nerve pain or worse (mobility issues). Thankfully I do not have mobility or strength issues but I have nerve which tends to be in the feet, especially my left outer heel area. And the pain is significant enough to be a real problem and it effects my ability to live a normal life. If you can share some more details about your surgery and the type of pain, it would be helpful. I would suggest exercises which re-build the back muscles and stretch out that area; this will also help reduce inflammation and retrain your nerves to be heathier. I know how diffilcult it is to exercise while in pain, but even a little (15 minutes) will go a long way. Also, a low sugar diet, and low inflammatory diet will help. Nutrition that helps the nerves (e.g., b-complex, magnesium) only helps.

Good luck

JT
