Hi

I have been suffering with lower back pain for 6 months it goes in to by bum cheeks and is now continuing to the backs of my thigh area it is worsening , i was referred to a neurolgist as they thought it was nerve pain but on results of MRI i have fluid signal/oedemain the midlinesubcutaneous tissues behind l2 and l3 level and a disc protrusion on l5\s1, the neurologist has discharged me and not referred me on else where i also have lost the reflexes in my lower leg and feet , im unsure where i go from here who i ask to see me and what the treatment options are any help would be appreciated kind regards xx

you say: "where i also have lost the reflexes in my lower leg and feet". This is serious. You must contact a GP as soon as possible. The GP will know who must see with some urgency.

Persuade the GP to try a course of erythromycin. Google "erythromycin anti inflammatory effects". I know from experience that it can reduce fluid build up. The fluid build up is applying pressure on nerve roots and this may be the reason for loss of reflexes.

Chiropractor may be able to help with disc protrusion. You need to find out how the protrusion occurred in the first place so that you avoid the action that caused the problem. An Alexander Technique teacher may be able to help with this.

I think you need to go back to your GP for a referral to the appropriate specialist now that the neurologist has discharged you. Take care.

I agree with schoeytravel. Having had 3 spinal ops I would have thought that in your case you should see a neurosurgeon/spinal surgeon. (Not a neurologist)
