I’ve had a prolonged back problem called Scheuremann’s for the last 10 or so years, I used to play football and swim regularly but took the decision in 2014 to stop so I didn’t damage it further.
I’ve had really bad days with it lately, even loading the washing machine or walking upstairs hurt like anything!
I started running late last year but took a break over Christmas and restarted yesterday but I was in agony - is it wise to carry on or do you think my back has got the better of me?
Sorry for the long winded post, thank you for any advice you give, it’s really appreciated! Thank you

Right well you could ask your GP for a referral to the pain clinic. They look at your condition and all the options that may help you.. These can be acupuncture swimming physio and meds etc. You may have a bit to wait but they are good.
As I said a chiropractor can also be very good.
For now keep a diary and see when your pain is it its worse. First thing, sitting, walking etc.

Pain can really tear ya down... but don't give up.. just pace yourself.. find other ways to do what u love.. or find new things that make u happy. I hope things get better for ya !!!
See my Posts part 1 to part 6. They will give you some ideas to work with.
I have lot of suspicions to what may be happening. Note the word may. You need to book an appointment with an Alexander Teacher. They can do something because they work with their hands guiding better muscle function.
A visit to a McTimony chiropractor could help reduce muscle back stress.
The agony you had is something many sportsman have when they stop an activity and then come back to an activity and over do things. But that reasoning may not be accurate in your case.
An Alexander Teacher has skills that is beyond the understanding of people in the medical field. Medical specialists work by reading what other people have done and then adapt the conclusions from the writings. This cannot be done in regard to muscle control and bad muscle behaviour. This is because the brain has to learn to do things differently. This involves much work on behalf of the patient with the guidance of a teacher.
I have a friend with this. She had intensive physio for a year after things got really bad, and now maintains with weekly sessions at a hydrotherapy pool. The warm water helps with the pain and she does gentle swimming and other exercises.
Although this is considered a paediatric or development problem, that is only because it starts there, it doesn't suddenly go away when someone becomes an adult! So I suspect you need to see your GP and get referred to adult services to support you with this.
Thank you for all is your advice, I’ve started making a diary of when my back hurts and we’re on 3 times already today and it’s not even 3pm! I aim to see a doctor next week and I can show them my diary then too. Even the simplest of things have set it off today so it really is looking like running is out of the question
Hi! If you want a quick and easy back pain heal, I would suggest you not to go to the doctors first and try this program out... It has helped me to a point where I can go back to the gym again although slowly. It also gurantees that you won't have to ever go to a doctor for a back checkup ever again... Here's the link to it but you might need to copy and paste it to your search bar...
