hiya everyone I was just wondering if there was anyone out there that could possibly tell me why I keep falling, after sitting for long periods at my computer or watching telly after getting up the pain in my legs its unbearable, but after a short pause when I think its ok to walk, this is when I fall. Last yr. I fell down the stairs, I got a compound fracture of my arm + I had a bleed on the brain due to my fall, they did a scan to rule out a stroke & found it was through the fall where I banged my head, they did two scans the one they did the following day & ruled a stroke out,I was just wondering if anyone might have an answer to my question. I thought it might be osteo arthritis (don't no if I've spelled that right)only this I've read about sitting for long periods of time then getting up & feeling dizzy, I do take tramadol for RLS but ruled this out,I only take it at night 150mg which is not a lot, according to my GP.when I had a fall last yr. they where giving me 800mg in hospital, but I weaned this down to 150mg that's what I take know. But its this falling down that gets to me.I used to be so fit & active but since falling down the stairs last yr. everything seems to have gone to pot.XXXXXXXCONNIE50

See a McTimony chiropractor. At the moment things are unknown. A McTimony chiropractor should be able to tell you if you are pulling on the nerve roots due to problem with tight muscles in the legs.
You need to take up a gentle physical activity that gets you back in touch with your body. If you are aware that you are about to fall then you can hold onto something. If you have no idea you are about to fall then you can fall and hurt yourself badly.
You need some training on how to fall. This involves someone teaching how to let go of tension when you fall. This way you roll in all sorts of ways when you land. If you fall as a lump that is not relaxed you will break something.
T'ai chi pushing hands is a very good exercise and involves learning a lot about fluidity and balance.
See a sports therapist to see if you have muscles that are too tight in your legs and get the tightness massaged out.
I take it you are not over 55? Usually anyone over 55 that falls, especially for an unexplained reason, is referred to the falls clinic for further investigation and training on how to fall. I wonder if you should be asking your question of the GP, and get a referral to a falls clinic?
