Hi I've been on amitryptaline for 2 and half years, after my appt with my consultant on Sept 12th I was advised to stop taking my amitryptaline. I stopped them utility he last 2 days I've had really bad stomach pains. They are all over sporadically. Mainly more to the right side. I was just wondering if anybody else has experienced this just after a week of coming off them??
My doctor did say to take myself upto A&European if pains don't ease off or get worse, so I think this is what I might do in the morning when ive dropped little one at school as I can't keep just sitting home hoping it eases. I'm concerned it might be something else or something more serious.

I'm not getting headaches or tiredness. I'm getting painful stomach pains and pelvic pains. I saw my GP today who has given me anti sickness tablets and paracetamol.
There's not much she can do now I've not been on my tablets for 9 days now. I was just asking of anyone had had the same as me, as I'm worried thinking it is something unrelated
Amytriptlyn is known to cause constipation. It is given to anorexics. The stopping is like withdrawing a plug ...your body may well be making adjustments to normal muscle action on digesting foods etc. I would suggest you give yourself four or five days to adjust and things should settle down after that. Warm hot water bottle or bath, frequently, should ease the pain. It just goes to show how powerful drugs are. From your description I do think it is the withdrawal of the drug upsetting the function of the gut and that can cause excruciating pain that will radiate to different parts of the body. Be kind with yourself and gently adjust.
Thankyou. I've been to my urgent car Centre this morning and they've had a feel of my tummy and stuff. They don't believe it's anything serious but they have sent a letter to my gp to request an ultrasound. So I guess I just wait a bit longer. Yeah I've been doing the hot water and baths they do help a bit. It's just so annoying. I just seam to be going in circles. X
I don't think after 9 days that your stomach issues would be related to the amitryptiline. I stopped taking it cold turkey and just felt a bit wierd for a few days, had a headache and restless legs. After about a week everything was fine. Of course, everyone is different and also it may depend on what other drugs you are on.
I think if it was me and I was very worried, I would go to a & e and see if they can give you some assurance, tests or whatever.
Hope you get sorted, I'm sure it will, try not to worry as that will make it worse
I was told to stop taking Ammitrypline about 4 years all that happened I didn't sleep for 7 days and the emergency Doctor put me back on them, and I'm still taking them now.
They were good for sleep wasn't they?.I've been sleeping ok so I'm thankful for that. Just wish my pains would stop as I've just started a new job this week and already had 2 days off. X
Suzied2b bananas5 is right you should never go a drug cold turkey you really need to go off gradually,if not it can make you very I'll. Take care Susiejo1948
