Gastritis?

Hi everyone,

I've been getting these 'attacks' of stomach pain for a few months now and the pain is indescribable. The pain can last a few hours and I it is the most painful thing I've ever felt. After the pain has gone my stomach is very sore and tender, can hardly eat or drink anything without irritating my stomach again. Ive been to the doctors and they've said it might be gastritis and to take omeprazole tablets for a month, theyve also done bloods and stool sample and they're both clear. I've tried pushing them to do an endoscopy as I really want to get this sorted but they just seem to fob me off and ignore the fact that I am in agonising pain.

Has anyone else suffered from gastritis? If so, does the pain feel unbearable? I am very concerned!

Your GP has done bloods and stools to eliminate infection as a cause. Giving you Omeprazol is good as they line, and protect, your stomach from whatever is causing your gastritis.

Have you ever taken prescription NSAID?s Or aspirin for any time? They can both irritate your stomach lining.

Eliminate irritating foods from your diet such as lactose from dairy or gluten from wheat.

If your GP felt you would benefit from an endoscopy she would send you for one but..if she feels nothing will be gained she won't. That's how the system works

Hi, i understand they have to go through all the precautions, however this has been going on for months and the pills prescribed to me aren't making a difference. All I have been eating is non irritant foods (if I can bare to eat so I'm just left in pain with no pain relief, advice on what to do or how to handle the pain)...thanks for the comment but I already knew this lol

Sorry I didn't mean to sound like Granny!! It is a fairly standard answer to eliminate anything...most don't have a clue about meds.

How long have you been taking Omeprazole? And could you double the dose?

Could you see another GP? Or ask the one you are seeing for some help wit pain?

Pharmacists are very knowledgeable but obviously he can't prescribe but might give you some advice to take to GP.

Are you sure it is your tum? Not gall stones? That pain is dire.

Hi poor you. This sounds very nasty and I am not surprised you want to get it sorted. Have you tried keeping a diary on when and under what circumstances the pain comes on? Is it just before eating, just after, or random? If you keep a record then it is worth going back to your doctors as they might be able to see a link and find some treatment which can help you.

Let me know how you get on please. x

I had an endoscopy 2 months ago but it revealed nothing. Maybe you have a stomach ulcer. I find drinking milk helps. You may have an allergy , they will find an answer soon, make sure you keep going back to doctors. I know how worrying this is , take care.

I had a stomach ulcer from taking NSAIDS years ago, and that's how it felt. They did an endoscopy to check what was going on and found it. I don't know much about it, but I wonder if you should be getting a second opinion?
