Hi I'm having surgery on my L5 S1 going though my abdomen and also I'm having neck surgery on my levels 3 4 and 5 . There going to do both of them at the same time so my recovery time will be in one setting. I'm starting to get nervous. Quick history both accidents were with 18 wheeler neither my fault first one in 1999 L4 and L5 removed cage built from bone marrow in my hip. Great results depended on medications daily but less than 75 percent as before. Second accident December 29,2017 I'm having to take medicine all day everyday. Never had neck problems tho. Oh by the way I'm new .

It would not be sensible to have both at the same time. You need to research the issues of body stress and recovery. The neck surgery on levels 3 4 and 5 will influence the recovery from L5 S1 due to spinal reflex issues. Issues in L5 will feed back into recovery for levels 3, 4, 5.

I am not a surgeon and do not know the reasons for the massive surgery being required. Many surgeons do an operation see the patient for a short period afterwards and then never see the patient again. Thus the surgeons knowledge of long term recovery is extremely limited.

You need to make inquiries to find out what is the best to do in order to get the best long term recovery.

I think John Smith is prabably correct. I cannot see how proper post op rehabilitation can take place when two areas are involved. What happens at one area of the spine impacts on the other areas so any physio on the neck say could affect the lower spine adversely.

Perhaps the answer woukd be to consult a chiropractor or physio to ask their opinion. They are the ones who deal with post operative rehabilitation .

Good luck with whatever surgery you do have.
