Unbearable random back pain.

I am 41 years old and have suffered from the occasional bad back since i was 16 but in the last two years or so it has become unbearable. I can be sitting, standing, lying down it just goes daily, sometimes once or twice a day other times it can be constant throughout the day but it stops me dead in my tracks leaving me screaming in pain, unable to stand up straight or even move at all sometimes. I also get sharp stabbing pains in my groin and the same in my right hip. Doctor just said i feel tense and prescribed Naproxen for the pain.

That doesn't sound good if yiu are screaming with pain every day. Have you been to a physio ? I might suggest finding a good Pilates teacher who will do a one to one session with you to see if there is something in the way you move , sit or stand that is putting your back into strain or twisting it awkwardly. We can develop habits over years that put increasing strain on the back. GPS can't really diagnose these problems.

What kind of exercise do you do ? There are specific exercises to strengthen and tone back muscles to prevent injury but they need to be taught by someone who has assessed your back properly

Hope you find out what the problem is soon.

I walk 4 to 5 miles a day other than that no excercise. I will take your advice on board. Thank you

I recommend having your Dr check for SI joint problems because I have similar problems. I've had chronic low back pain for over 13 years now made much worse by a car accident almost 3 years ago now. I've been in PT and she recommended that I go to a new Dr last year - and he found that I also have an SI joint problem.

Then in the last few months they realized that I have a labral tear in my hip, which can cause pain in many places including groin pain, buttock pain, and pain in the font of your hip. So it sounds like that a hip labrum tear may be the most important thing to check for.

I hope this helps you!

I have similar, but my sharp stabbing pains are also in back, legs and groin. Drs say it is nerve pain.
