Hi,

I suffered with frozen shoulder, once in each shoulder. I went to physio where I received a combination of exercise, ultrasound treatment & finally 1 steroid injection.

On both occasions the frozen shoulder was cleared within 8 months. I know that a treatment that works for me, won't necessarily work for anyone else. But I thought it best to share my experience, as it may help someone else.

I wish you the best of luck, I know how horrible that pain is.

Cheers, Catmag.

Hi I was supposedly diagnosed with a frozen shoulder and with no relief after physiotherapy and many cortisone injections my rheumatologist sent me to an orthopaedic surgeon who diagnosed calcification tendinitis (on ultrasound and X-ray) with a bone spur tearing my total or cuff.

Finally, after a procedure called needling (breaking up the calcium deposits with a needle and washing the space out .... I had surgery (subacromial decompression). Lo and behold however, once I recovered, my right shoulder developed the same excruciating pain. Same diagnosis as above and booked in for the same operation this time in my right shoulder.

Do not be fobbed off or waste any more of your life in pain drugged up. Insist on scans / ultrasounds so you KNOW what the problem is. I feel for you, I really do but do keep on insisting for further help. If you don't become your own advocate, no one else will.

Eventually, after being worn down with the pain (my GP insisted I was depressed).... But who wouldn't be! I refused anti depressants and told him I need the problem addressing.

Hope all works out for you,

BB

I've had frozen shoulder (both sides, different times) and it's miserable so I send my commiserations to you.

Surgery is not necessarily the answer but it's worth a discussion (I'm cautious because if you've had frozen shoulder of unknown origin it's reported that there's a 50% chance it will recur after any shoulder surgery).

That said, if you've still get restriction and symptoms all these years on, you definitely need to consider further options.

For me, it took 15 months or more for the original frozen shoulder to unfreeze (so to speak) - a long time to freeze and then some time frozen before starting to improve. It's only when it's frozen (not still freezing) that you can start working on exercises to improve the range of motion etc. in advance of when you start to 'thaw' out.

The other shoulder was about 11 months, iirc. I was fortunate in that I didn't need surgical intervention - time (eventually) and physiotherapy did it for me.

Not what you're looking for?
