I have been recently prescribed Oramorph for any break through back pain. 5ml three times a day did nothing, now I take 10ml (just one dose) if I'm in real trouble. Have just done so in fact! It can make me feel nauseous but no more so than the pain I get already.

I take Pregabalin, cocodamol and Tramadol but I try to keep the Tramadol to just 2 tabs twice a day.

Happy Easter and best wishes 😊

Hi seasidecol,

I take Oramorph for breakthrough pain but I am also taking slow release morphine. I was on Tramadol, 2 tabs 3 times a day when I first needed the Oramorph then came off the Tramadol and onto slow release. The good thing is that having adequate pain relief has enabled me to start swimming again which has helped with mobility in my shoulder and a decrease in pain which means I can cut down on pain relief mess. 😄

I dont have any side effects from the morphine other than constipation. 🙁

Good afternoon. Just a little bit of personal advice from someone who has had a lot of experience with oramorph/morphine oral solution.

Oramorph should only be used for break through pain. I was not aware of this when I was first prescribed it a few years ago. I was put on huge dose in fact I was being prescribed 1200mI' every 14 days I was in huge amounts of pain so I would take 90mg of. Zomorph every 12 hrs then use Oramorph when the pain was at its worst it got to the stage where I was taking nearly 100millls daily my dr would carry on increasing the dosage.

It was then that I saw my pain management consultant who said Oramorph should only be used for break through pain and the zomorph I was taking every 12hrs was obviously not working and that was why I felt as if the Oramorph worked better. So I was put on oxycodon and liquid oxynorm I now don't feel the need to use the liquid. I take 1 60mg of oxycodon 2 times daily. PLEASE go back to your Dr inform them that the medication you are on is not helping your pain and that you feel that the Oramorph only helps. There is no need for anyone to suffer or have to live on oramorph the way I did and you seem to be. You need a stronger pain plan and pain Meds. Where they will try you on something stronger that suits you please don't suffer when you don't have to demand to see a proper pain management consultant and whilst waiting to see them ask your Dr for something stronger to get you through until you see a pain management team. I spent so long drinking out of oramorph bottles just so I could get a little relief there is help and better pain medication to suit you. It starts by phoning your Dr and insists on better pain management THE BEST OF LUCK TO YOU.
