More pain: I have been on butrans 10 for nearly... - Pain Concern
More pain
Sorry I haven't been on opioid pain meds, mine are anti inflammatory and neuropathic anticonvulsants.
Best to ask GP, but if you want suggestions before you go to your GP, speak to a pharmacist. They are highly trained, although they can't prescribe meds, they may have some useful suggestions.
Sorry I can't be of more help. Hope you find an alternative that works.
Take care, Catherine.
Hi ilovemychildren
Morphine is the next/best step up from butrans. You can find your own dose with morphine as they start you off with the liquid form. Once established, the gp will put you on the tablet form and keep the liquid as a top up drug. Hope this helps.

I have been on bu- trans, then fentylin patches then followed by tablet & liquid form of morphine.
I was recently at the pain clinic and was told morphine is not the be all and end all of painkillers any more.
I have to be weaned off morphine over the next 6 mths and am gonna be put on either gabapentin or pregablin when I see the pain consultant again in 6 mths.
Hope this helps a bit x
Ps my pain comes from severe OA in my knees, spine & neck x
Hi chrissyb62.
I too am taking gabapentin I take 3x300mg 3 time's daily. I have been on them for a number of years. I tried switching to the pregabaline but had no joy on them so went back to the gabapentin. I also take these with morphine tablets and fentanyl patches we seem to have it at a steady level. So hope you have some luck with them.

Thanks the doctor is upping my butrans to 30 mcg per hour
Hi ilovemychildren1.
I'm taking the fentynal patche. The ones I'm on at the moment are 50mcg (however I can go upto 75mcg )which I do do when my pain is worse than normal (if there is a normal).I wear these patches for 3 days at a time then change reapply then the same again. So far I've had no side affects to this patch and have been on it now for my chronic pain (of my knees, back and shoulder)for a number of years. Maybe worth asking you gp if your other patches are giving u to many side affects. Hope this helps. Good luck.
