Foot pain

hi I have had pain in the ball off my foot and ankle for a while now,the doctor took an xray came back normal.I am now in severe pain either when I walk or sit down.

Ask your doctor if there is any possibility that it is an inflammatory problem (plantar fasciitis in the ball of the foot, and achilles tendonitis in the ankle). That won't show up on xray but might show up on ultrasound. If this has been an ongoing problem, and if you also have ongoing back problems, then ask for a referral to a rheumatologist to rule out sero-negative inflammatory arthritis (spondyloarthritis)

I had a strange pain like a hot poker going through the middle of my foot .My doctor was as a loss so he sent me to "the pain relief clinic" at a hospital.After this was determined as nerve damage and Gapentin 300 mg ,which was designed for another condition,however,it was found to have pain relief properties as well.It worked !

Dear Sue,

I can sympathise, with you hear, foot pain is horrible. I badly damaged my foot, couple of years ago, nothing actually broken-just pulled, torn, bruised and VERY painful! If your foot doesn't 'settle down', within a couple of months, go back and ask for a second X-ray. I was friendly with a retired Fireman, a few years ago. David told me of an occasion when he had badly hurt his foot-after six months (probably closer to a year, knowing David) he sought a second opinion. Further X-rays revealed that his foot HAD indeed been broken underneath, as he had suspected all along, and had then healed badly-in the wrong place. David then had to endure the re-breaking, re-setting followed by months in plaster, before his foot finally healed. David informs me that his foot has never been entirely 'right', ever since.

Sorry to 'bang on' at you Sue, it's just that I'm anxious for you not to erm....erm follow in David's 'footsteps' (I can't believe I just said that! SORRY!!!).
