Hi all ,I had a full knee replacement in Jan this year, the usual stuf pain and excersise after the op,My concern is I still have numbness on the left side and at nite it is very hot I can't stand any cover or my duvet on it also sleep restricted,The biggest problem is I can't bend it back and it is like a very tight band and I feel as if it will snap if I try and push ,!I know it won't ,Also going up stair and down is terrible it is like ther is something like metal holding it back ,not making it bend ,Well I go back to the specialist in5 month's he is going to xray it but it probably won't show anything,I am still in pain ,I wish i never had it done,I do excersise on my bike, any suggestions, thanks.X

Hi JoanZoe, I feel you when it comes to knee replacements. I have numbness on the right top side of my right knee. I have never had either one of my total knee replacement do what your describing. But I would go to another Dr. an get a second opinion if you can. I know in some countries that isn't as easy as in the USA.

I know before i got my first total knee done, the Dr. didn't want to do it cause I was so young lol I was 52, It hurt like hell I told him if I couldn't have the knee replacement to cut the leg off from the knee down. He thought I was joking an I told him I wasn't, he gave me the replacement. No matter what I was a happy camper then.

Keep us posted

I'll keep you in my prayers.

Hi

My missus had a total knee replacement in April .She's fine now except for the numbness you describe and also she still won't tolerate anything touching the area at night or when she wears trousers. She saw her specialist last week and explained that during the operation the tiny nerves are severed and it's this that causes the numbness he said it could take up to 2 years to go completely and in a very small amount of people it is a permanent thing.I hope this helps a bit.

my first knee replacement was in 2005 an i still have the numbness but i've had 10 surgeries through out the years on both knees so that is why i still have numbness probably but it didn't cause the issue ur having.

I had my knee replaced just over 2 months ago. I still have numbness on the outside of the knee, which I have been told by PT is normal. I also have warmth, more at sometimes than others, also a part of the healing. My knee gets very tight, it feels like the incision which is nicely healed, is going to burst. I'm told that is the swelling, which I am told is normal also, can be that way for 9 months to a year. Keep doing your exercises. Good Luck! My flexion is excellent, but am still working on the straightening.
