Has anyone found lyrica effective for nerve pain? How hard is it to get off gabapentin and change to lyrica?

Thanks

I found that if you go from one gabapentin to Lyrica there is little difference in pain control, but I found too high doses of Gabapentin 900mls a day is damaging to you as it (in my opinion) makes for a sudden problems with my legs that they turned rubbery in an instant with no warning at least in the beginning as my feet started flopping very quickly and I begun to recognize the signs to get off my feet and rest.

Lyrica is better and you can keep it to a minimum, but I suspect on too high doses that they to can be dangerous, because a little bit of pain warns you to get off your feet and rest, but to turn the nervous system off, or numb it too much, then your at risk of sudden problems, about your legs giving way, as happened to me on high doses of gabapentin, my legs would just go limp , but when I stopped it has not happened since, but it could just be I'm more aware, but that is just my opinion , I could be wrong. best wishes Alex

Your doc will have that info for you and if switching should have explained the transition from one to the other .

This is why I don't post here! My understanding is that we are sharing information about OUR experiences. How is the above comment helpful?

"Should have"...doesn't happen. That is why we are here.

My experience with gabapentin was unsuccessful. I am on Lyrica at 150mg

3 times a day going on 4 years. Most days are good meaning I can walk.

Lyrica is less effective for me when taken with food so keep that in mind.

The transition from these type of medications can be brutal but not

always. Give yourself a couple of weeks before giving up.

Never give up on yourself!

I am sorry if my reply offended you and sharing your experience is of great value. I do feel the part of her question about how to switch from one drug to another however should come from her doctor as he/she will know other drugs this person is on and exactly the best way to go from one to the other . Yes, the doctor should have and if did not, contact the doc for instructions . Posting how it effected you is one thing, telling someone how to go from one drug to another is quite different and is dependent on several points that only she and her doc know. That is why I responded the way I did. It was my opinion and I posted it just as you have an opinion and can post it without insulting me .

Hi..for some reason I can't private message you.For my nerve pain Lyrica didn't help.Low dose,25 mgs of amtrpilyne worked for me,thank goodness! Keep in mind, some meds work for some, and not others. Lidocane patches just isn't as good at helping me.They do help my back pain though, but It's brief.hope you find your relief. It's try and miss with meds.you will find what works for you...I finally did after many tries with other meds!hope you are well!dunkxx
