Coming down on Lyrica

Hi I am currently trying to get off Lyrica. About 2 months ago I went up to 280mg 3 times a day. It worked for a couple of weeks and then it stopped working. I have currently reduced by 75mg and I have severe pain in my butt and back of thighs. For me this pain isn't unusual it's just worse. I need to get down to 75mg 3 times a day by February as we are going on a holiday to a sleepy little coastal town with no pharmacy. I am seeing a female GP next week and will discuss it with her. I am worried and scared. Any advice please.

Lyrica must be reduced extremely slowly. I hope you have started coming down under the guidance of your GP? 2 months to reduce from 760 to 225 a day is too fast. Usually it is recommended 100 per day and stay on that dose for at least 2 weeks.

You say you are going on holiday where there is no pharmacy? You can surely take any meds you need for the duration?

Thanks Bananas I will take you're advise. I will have to get all my scripts before I go. I hope things are going well for you and David. Have a great Christmas. Lola

As long as you take the packaging showing that the medication has been prescribed for you and the dose you're on, there is no issue at customs. If concerned you can also request a letter from your doctor stating the script assigned to you. No reason to be in pain for your holiday if the underlying cause has not yet been mitigated.

Thanks so much. We are not going on a plane. We are travelling a few hours from home, we live in Australia. I will be okay.

Hi,

I totally agree with the last 2 replies. I am on lyrica and I think it is far too big of a decrease in such a short time. You may have nasty withdrawals. I travel and always take lyrica with me with the rest of my medication without problem. Lyrica is a drug which requires extreme patience when tapering

Good luck and I hope you taper safely and enjoy your break

Thanks Daisy chain. I came off Cymbalta years ago because it stopped working. I cried alot, felt anxious and irritable but I got off them. Just do it slowly. All the best. Lola

I am in the process of reducing Lyrica I have taken for many, many years. I am more than half way through the reduction now and can assure you it is quite normal to feel worse for a wee while when reducing your Pregabalin. I reduce mine by 75mg every fortnight and strangely, for the last 3 -5 days in the fortnightly cycle the pain greatly increases and the mood swings are really fierce. I am feeling the overall benefit though, my cognitive ability has greatly increased which I'm totally delighted about.

Omg I’m so glad to hear someone is managing to taper. Iv tried only once and slowly but I couldn’t handle the deep despair I felt. It gives me hope to hear it can be done. Will you replace it with anything else for yr pain ?
