The shin pain could be coming from the back. Can they operate on your spine?

does sound more like nerve pain from spine. Did you keep as mobile as possible after the op and for recovery, or could there be some muscle wastage - that can happen surprisingly quickly and take a long while to overcome.

I'm sorry to hear of your pain. I had a TKR nearly two years ago and am still having swelling, inflammation and horrible nerve pain in the new knee (the new joint is fine). I am waiting for an operation to release trapped peroneal nerves lower down my leg which my surgeon has diagnosed are causing the pain in the knee, where the peroneal nerve passes through. The nerve goes right up the leg through the knee and joins the sciatic nerve. Whether this is the same for you, I obviously can't say, but it might be something you could mention to your consultant & ask him to take a look. Regarding your back pain, you have my sympathies. My back muscles are still adjusting to my new gait as a result of the TKR (after many years of chronic back pain) & it's a process that takes time. It takes as long as it takes, but due to the knee pain I haven't been able to exercise as much as I should, so it's slowed down my recovery. What I would recommend is finding a qualified Advanced Remedial Massage Therapist (NOT sports massage, not the same thing) who will work with your back to help those tight muscles & release those areas that have been 'protecting' and compensating, as well as opening up those spaces in your spine. It's the best decision I ever made. Physiotherapy didn't help me at all. You'll have to pay for it, but it's worth it. Just make sure you get a good one & check their qualifications! They will give exercises too, ones tailored to your own individual needs. I have a friend with lumbar stenosis & he goes to the same masseur as me, and he swears by it. Good luck & wishing you well!

Many thanks for all your replies, the fact that you have taken your time to reply is very much appreciated. I just feel that I have been abandoned by my gp. I was under the neuros at Salford royal hospital then decided that they couldn't do anything for me as my spinal stenosis wasn't that bad and they said I needed to back to the pain clinic.my gp decided that I didn't need to go to the pain clinic and that he would take care of my pain.I protested and am now waiting for the appointment. I had a check up for my tkr and told the consultant that I still had pain.je arranged for the scans wjich came back normal. I really have had enough. I have pain in my back, legs hands, feet and neck.I am curr taking tramadol and paracetamol for my pain.I have tried gabapentin, pregablin and oramorph but can't tolorate them.I am really fed up.

Your posture my be out of balance. Out of balance posture will load areas of the knee joint that should not be subjected to stress the result is pain and discomfort.

Hope this helps

Hi there, I had a knee replacement just over three years now and I ended up with CRPS but I knew I had it within the first three months after the surgery.

Is your knee still stuff or do you have a better range of motion than you did befor. Can you walk on it ?

What has the doctor said about it.

Do you mind me asking how old you are ?

Look forward to chatting again

I had a tkr of my right knee a year ago on Jan 20th. I still have pain too. It feels like I have ace bandage wrapped around the inside of my knee. I hear and feel 'cracking'. I also have sharp stabbing pain in my lower right thigh. I had this pain RIGHT after surgery too. This pain was worse than the operation pain itself! My surgeon took xrays and swears nothing is wrong. She did say my new knee cap moved a little but no biggie! I also now have a little lump on the bottom of my leg. When I showed it to her she said "does it hurt?" I said no. She said "i wouldn't worry about it!" Serious??? All the people I know who have had a total knee replacement have NO pain at all!! So I'm going to a Dr in Boston for a 2nd opinion! Pain to me means something is wrong.
