I too have fibro and osteoarthritis and know what you mean about constant pain. I take tramadol when it gets really bad but have found that vit d3 and B12 supplements, my tens maching and mindfulness helps a little. Nothing takes my pain away completely but it helps me cope better. I learnt the mindfulness through the pain clinic which my GP referred me to. Hope you find something that helps you cope. Gentle hugs Joolz.x
I hate to say it ajs, but none of us are getting any younger. Most of what you describe is simply ageing and to be expected. Nothing takes pain away altogether and I know how debilitating it is, I've been like it for 20 years, and caring for my Dad when he was terminally ill was such a drain even with all the outside help I had.
Have you thought about respite or outside care to help with your dad?
Thanks Jane yes we got some respite a few weeks ago first time in 8 years it was great probably do it again in September or October time hopefully yes as you say age plays a part with our body pain
As Jayne said looking after a ill parent can't be easy done it with my late father watching your dad sick is awful and very stressful and being in pain yourself only makes matters worse can't another member of your family help if there is anyone? Give you a rest
Was going to suggest similar to Jayne P, it sounds like you need a respite from caring to regain your own health control AJS3126. I am in your age group with osteoarthritis which I have had for twenty odd years and notice I get more pain these days and muscle weakness, so there is no simple answer. The pain is always there so you need ways to control it, me time can work wonders.
Join Pain Concern painconcern.org.uk as it is cheap and they have a wonderful newsletter which gives great information and tips on living with and managing/ minimising symptoms. Also Airing Pain, their radio broadcasts, might assist - details on the website.
Can you get referred to a pain clinic or expert? Try to avoid doing too much and then paying for it afterwards; better a bit less and sustainable. I find a bath or shower good and there is no reason not to have more than one a day if it helps. I agree about Alexander Technique but it is expensive as it is a long term thing. Acupuncture? If your mood drops try to share with someone like this site. Little treats too!
You've probably considered the options for looking after your father but keep in mind to reconsider them if his or your situation changes.
