Help with Medical costs
Bit confused Kevscar. Why would anyone not be able to get free NHS treatment and care? Is this more for equipment which used to be issued free?

It's for prescription costs I think. If your not on a pre-payment scheme, are exempt for certain medical conditions, or have an exemption certificate the costs of prescriptions per item every month can be fianacially crippling!
And dental costs too!
Or Wales!!
Don't know why we still have to pay? Or why chronic pain doesn't entitle you to free prescriptions? I have six items a month relating to my pain...over £40 if paid per item. £10 a month if on a prepayment certificate. Makes a huge difference. But not well advertised at all. Hopefully everyone on this site knows about it.
Yes sorry Wales!
£30 difference is a huge saving. Didn't realise it was as much.
Does that mean less profit or is it subsidised?

I have no idea how it works at all, I just hope everybody knows that there are others way of paying. I don't really understand how the NHS works in general, and I work for them! I just know that we're lucky to have it, I have lived abroad where they check for insurance before they will even treat you in an emergency and I am so grateful for the NHS, even though it has many, many faults.
If you follow the link I think it still applies to help with optical and dental costs in Scotland and Wales if you on a low income. 😀
I have a Medical exemption Certificate nhs.uk/NHSEngland/Healthcos...
but I was told it doesn't cover dentist/optical
Pre payment certificates cover prescription costs. Low income schemes (HC1 & HC2 certificates) help with optical and dental costs. Sorry if I confused it a bit, I was a bit confused. My tax credit exemption card does cover nhs dentist, eye tests and an optical voucher towards glasses.
Eye tests are free in Scotland for everyone but even registered blind I have to pay for any specs.
You have to fill in separate forms for opticians, and dentists, when on low income and qualifying benefits.

People in Wales get free prescriptions so not sure I understand but I buy a pre-paid prescription charge £104 per year. I have COPD and severe back problems so I have sleeping tablets and morphine patches its saves me a fortune.
