Thanks for posting this.

A Base line of happiness. Made so much sense to me. I have sometimes been amazed at peoples resilience in the face of some of life's challenges. And have come to think of myself as a champaign cork that may get pushed down to the bottom of the glass but given the slightest space will pop up again.

This has given me the poke in the ribs I need to keep trying to clear those brambles from my path.

Every morning on my way to work I send up a silent prayer for an extra helping of patience. Especially if Fred's in.

I love the idea of said thought zipping along a supper highway.

I swear just thinking about patience helps on most days.

I don't know about anyone else but when in unremitting pain all day everyday I find

I try to give my pain permission to be there - I know what things set it off and how much, so by allowing it to happen it frees up alot of negativity. It's not giving in to it because that would be stopping or not starting something because of the pain.

In an example, Tues ams I take my daughter to the bus stop to get the bus to college usually for 8.30 but occasionally 6.30 am. Both are out of my comfort zone, both cause extra pain, anxiety, and adreniline. Both are too early in the day for my prep routine. So I say it's going to hurt, it's going to disrupt my day for a long time after. So I use a heat pad, to give my brain another stimulus to focus on. I prefer the 6.30 run as there's less traffic, less rushing about generally. It's easier to concentrate. When I get home, I go back to bed for a couple of hours to rest, and read or do computer work. It just becomes a different routine and by allowing it to happen, I reduce my own stress levels and negativity.

Thanks for a great post. Don't forget, everyone is born happy because we all have a baseline. The only difference is that everyone's happiness is at a different point on the scale. And everyone's happiness needs different things to increase or return to base. But if we do simple things that make us happy frequently, including meditation, then we will be happier overall. It's why we have so many photo and video sharing sites on the net. Looking at baby animals, and only babies has a positive effect on the brain.

I am all for finding ways in the day to create happiness for ourselves and others. Could be as simple as watching the birds on the feeder.

Re baby animals and effects on brain. Did you listen to inside health's feature on Paro.The link gives an overview on him. I was very taken and heartened by his effect.

There's a lot of interest in this these days. Check out a book I saw reviewed in Sunday Times this week, The Brains Way of Healing by Norman Doidge. It's about neuroplasticity, or how the brain can remodel itself. There are lots of case histories, all seemingly amazing. It's dear on paper, £20 but you kindle can get it for £9.99. Might give it a try.

Hi curly girl 54,just wanted to say thankyou so much for posting this utube video,I hadn't heard of this woman and I've just watched three short videos on her work.The intention stuff really hit home,I live and do most of my activities with the intention of getting away from a chronic pain body,so constantly trying to distract myself,I even when totally exhaused get dressed into some reasonable clothes,get on mobility scooter to get to swimming pool,this does drop pain levels in my legs,but the striving a have to do to get there probably pushes me further than if I could be more compassionate with myself and tell myself it's ok to watch a fil or read a book in the afternoon if I'm hurting.I can't rest very well without guilt.So thanks for helping me understand mindfulness a bit more and that we all have it in us to practice changing the way our mind habitually does things and to be patient and compassionate

Have read parts and thought it was good, but haven't gotten around to actually meditating yet! :-O (Even though I know that contradicts the old odage:

"You should sit in meditation for twenty minutes every day - unless you're too busy;

then you should sit for an hour."

If you search 'Shauna Shapiro, Mindfulness Meditation and the Brain' on YouTube you should find it.

She's talking about what scientists can see in the brain as a result of mindfulness - the theory of neuro plasticity. Fascinating stuff 😏

Thanks for posting this. After just 6 weeks meditating I have noticed an increased resilience and a greater ability to find the positives in my life. I've only had one spell of fearful weeping whereas I was having several a week before.

To be truly ' scientific' they would need much bigger randomised tria!s but science tells me that taking Tramadol is the best way to control my pain !!!!!
