Hi Dawn78, Just got my Lower lumbar MRI report yesterday and GP said it's nothing that'll require surgery. I have yet to bring it to my physiotherapist for his conscencus, but Using a medical dictionary and some respectable web research articles I think I get the just of what it's saying. I am a 50 year old female who has suffered incredibly most of my adult life as well as some of my youth from endometriosis amongst a multitude of other related issues. It came hand in hand with back pain. I had an MRI of my pelvis in July that showed bilateral bursitis and bilateral ovarian cysts. I finally get to see a gynecologist specialist on Monday to ask if I can have a diagnostic laporoscopy to see if it is the cause again. The lumbar MRI showed five lumbar type vertabrae mild curvature, plus L4L4-5 L5, L5-S1 all protruding discs some are just touching nerve root and some are displacing nerve root. Also all are showingmild bilateral facet arthropathy. My physio has diagnosed me with SI Joint dysfunction on account of me being hypermobile. I'm not up to speed on all the medical terminology, can you share with me what your mri revealed so I know the difference between needing surgery and not. I suspect alot of my areas said patent vitamins and central canal except the L5-S1 which said mild causal narrowing on left SO foramen. Sorry this is so extensive.

Hi Dawn, sorry for your pain and trouble. It's horrible for you. When you say disc removed, do you mean fusion or discectomy? You must see the surgeon for his explanation coz otherwise they just don't know what the outcomes are for their patients. Have you got an appointment to see him/her? Best wishes x

Thank you for that information, just for my own curiosity Dawn 78, have you ever been diagnosed with any other medical issues, specifically of the gynocological nature perhaps? I ask because I suspect my own back pain to be associated with my past history of gynocological issues and through this forum have found I am not alone.

I had l4/l5 and l5/s1 removed dud to a central prolapse at both levels causing BI lateral siatica and foot drop, extreme difficulty passing water and BM. I had surgery twice in a year, first time discectomy second time I ha defenestration and laminectomy to make room for the nerve roots to be de compressed.

I continued to have numbness in the legs and heavy aching muscles and nerve pain, although it was different to pre op.

Because the nerves have been under pressure for some time they get damaged, it takes a while to repair.

I had scaring that tethered the nerve and had to have some painful physio for that. I'm over 20 yrs since surgery and still have pain and numbness but I'm able to manage it better now.
