Help ! In awful pain.: I'm In Agony !! Have... - Pain Concern
Help ! In awful pain.
Poor skinny, being thin helps! Pls see a good orthopedist, get slowly off the pills they ruined my kidneys. Get into physical therapy. Even if it hurts, stretch, stretch, stretch, morning noon and nite, on the floor. There are good videos on youtube but a§k the doctor first. My nerve was so inflamed i had my first (hopefully last) series of three steroid epidurals they helped together with exercises. Take no pills, i stash my Tramadol and oxy for the worst like emergency room with Morphine couple months ago.....now can walk 30 min. Again painless.....exercise is key, keep moving alternate resting, ice alternate with heating pad.
There is someone on this site scaring us of epidurals and i studied, unfounded fears, gathered her info from some obscure source. If your doctor recommends them they are way safer than pain pills and NSAID s.
Good luck, the pain can drive one crazy.
There are a huge range of alternative therapies that you can use to deal with the pain once you have a pain regime that allows you to work at them. Here are a few you can try that may in part or whole help maintain enough to reduce the pain meds.
Hydrotherapy, swimming, physiotherapy, biomechanics, pilates, yoga, Alexander technique, TENS, massage, aromatherapy massage, acupuncture, meditation, walking, light gym schedule. A few to start thinking of, anyway.
Pain meds aren't a cure, pain meds reduce the pain to a level that you're able to increase activity. The increased activity is aimed at getting you into a maintenance phase where you can have a normal a life as possible. This worked for me for many years, exactly what I hope to get back to as soon as I have the pain levels down to a point that allows.
Good luck!
Oh dear, you sound like I felt about eighteen months ago. Awful.
I have lumbar spinal stenosis - pain in back, hips and sciatica down BOTH legs, plantar fasciitis in right foot and fibromyalgia -migraine, neck and shoulder pain.
It took me about six months to a year to completely wean myself off Tramadol, naproxen, co-codamol, etc. etc.
I was so fed up I even came off Amitriptyline and Duloxetine for three months because I just felt a Desperate need for a RESET, not just for my brain and my body but for me to be able to get a feel for my body and what was actually going on without all the side effects. I'd also developed melena and issues with my kidney and liver as a result of all the drugs.
I actually came off Everything, COLD TURKEY - which was very dangerous -especially as I'm diabetic (type 2) and was fortunate not to have been sectioned as my Endo completely understood how I was feeling and explained that it was fairly common for diabetics to experience what he described as 'Burn Out'.
One of the main benefits of my actions was that I spent roughly three or four months experiencing every twinge, stab, spasm, cramp, shot and wave of pain. There were times when I would shiver and sweat with the pain and agony of just day to day living movements - even sitting down and standing up - using the toilet was an issue.
I then started to introduce simple paracetamol, cbd edibles and codeine before attending the appointment with the pain management consultant who has put me on morphine patches.
Don't get me wrong. I'm still in pain, sometimes, quite it's literally agony but, I'm more or less coping with very little pain medication outside my patches.
The hydrotherapy and steam baths -which I really look forward to, creams, gels and distractions are also helping but above all, feeling like I'm able to actually 'listen to and hear my body' has given me invaluable peace of mine.
I won't lie, I sometimes miss the zombie like pain free state I used to be in on some of the more powerful pain meds and when the pain is really bad, secretly tell myself off for being so resistant to taking them but I'm also glad to be off the Hamster Wheel of pain meds and glad that I'm not automatically reaching for or desperately seeking even stronger meds anymore.
the important thing is you do what works for You.
Wishing you all the best going forward.
My heart goes out to you, lm in the same boat , just waiting for a operation , had this terrible pain for 17 months now . I have no idea how long I will be waiting
You need to rest for one and start doing yoga. Stretch, even if it's for 30 seconds. But do it everyday.
Has anyone mentioned CBD yet ?
Possible investigate using CBD under the tongue ( see Arsepain ), or DimethylSulfoxide ( DMSO ) topically. Could benefit from one sachet of liposomal Altrient Vitamin C daily. Could be three weeks to see any change.
