I take 25mgs for sleep and it really works but hasn't helped with my pain
Hello
BOB here
Yes this is prescribed for nurological pain, it seems to be a low dose, although I am not a GP. Best taken at night
All the best
BOB
Thanks for the responses Bob and Holly. I am planning to increase the dose to 30mg after a couple of weeks on 20mg. I know it is early days but I do think the pain is a little easier and I am definitely sleeping better but that wouldn't be hard as I was being woken by the pain in the early hours and couldn't get back to sleep so anything is better than that!!
amitryptylline at low doses (anything from 10 mg to a maximum of 75 mg) can be really good at pain-modifying - especially nerve type pains. Unfortunately I get too many bad side effects from it for it to be of any use to me.
It can zonk you quite a bit in the mornings for a week or so until you get used to it. You can minimise that by taking it a full 12 hours before you need to wake up, rather than immediately before bed.
The med is very good at helping you sleep ,,, it also doubles up as anti-depressant ,,,,,, I have been taken them for over a year for spine problems,,,, lucky for me I had spine fusion 7 weeks ago ,,, and at the moment it's been a success. I still take the tables and I sleep very well.
All the best ...
Thanks Earthwitch and Mich, I am taking it about 8pm and I find I am fine in the morning. Def less pain in my hip but my lower back seems to be compensating and aching more!! But at least that doesn't wake me up. Does tend to make me sleepy by 10pm, what do you do if you are going out for the evening and don't want to be falling asleep too early?
Cheers
Hi yea I'm on 100 of amitripliyne boy now they work, once head hits pillow lights out, but does make u feel like a zombie next day though,
hi I started taking it for same sort of pain on low doses but now take 75mg plus pregablin 400mg and co-codamol but I take mine at about 5pm to 6pm but then cant go out as I am quite out of it but I am fine the next day and I do sleep well which makes me cope with any pain better than if im tired, but you do have to increase it very gradually and see how you get on but at first I found it knocked me out but then I got used to it and coped better so good luck and I hope it gets you out of pain
I take 25 mg of amitripylene at night and two doses of 30/40 mgs slow release Oxicontin each day. It helps my nerve pain in my knee and also helps me sleep. It doesn't matter what time I take it at night, I still wake up fine and not at all fuzzy. It has taken 2 years to find the best doses of pain killers but now I am there I am so grateful, just keep trying but always give a drug a few weeks before giving up on it
I tried 30mgs last night but was pretty knocked out this am so may stick to 20mgs for now.
