Anyway thought i would write another with an update almost 3 months on.
I seeked medical advice once i had a lot of replies on here saying it would be root nerve to sciatica.
I was getting physio once a week which gave me deep tissue massage and exercises to do to get my leg muscles firing again as i was having severe weakness in my right calf due to the back problem.
The physio advised core strengthening exercises and to carry on with Gym, lifting weights and anything to get my muscles working so they begin to work in tandum and regain their strength. 8 weeks ago, i could hardly jog nevermind sprint, now I am back to 100% and Its all down to great physio and 15minutes of stretching and exercises to loosen up all muscles around my Glutes and hamstrings as this is where the problem was from (tightening around this area trapping the nerve).
I still get very slight calf cramping when walking up stairs but its nothing i cannot live with.
Hope this is good reading and just goes to show a little reading and exercise does the body some good!
I am, however conscious of stretching thoroughly before Soccer as this was how the problem occurred so preperation is better than treatment

so did you achieve all this without the injection as i am in two minds about an injection that they say might be a option for me
Great news, hard work doing all those exercises, I go to physios before I go to drs, they know so much more about how the body works. Often the injury is not where the pain is felt.
Injection? I have never heard or was offered an Injection.
I know for a fact that i would rather see a physio than a Dr because all doctors seem to look at is the issue your having not the underlining cause which is exactly what my physio did.
He found that the muscle tightness in my buttocks and lower back was causing my Calfs to work overtime to compensate for my back problems leading to overuse on my calfs which lead to extreme weakness as i was using them more than i should of when i had no feeling in my lower leg due to the trapped nerve.
Basically after core exercises and a lot of patience and stretching every night i seemed to self-medicate myself.
The stretches i done for lower back issues such as mine were:
Sitting down place your leg over the opposite knee and push your knee across your body until you feel a tightening in your glutes. (example is putting your right knee to your chest then pushing it towards your left shoulder.
100m stance. positioning yourself in the same stance as 100 metre sprinters do as they prepare to start, bent over, 1 knee to chest, other extended out behind you. hold for 2 minutes and swap legs.
Bridge: On your back clench your buttocks and raise your bum off the floor and hold for 30 seconds, rest 10 seconds, hold 1 minute, rest 30 seconds
General Hamstring and calf stretching.
Hope this helps someone like it did me! i am all about prevention than treating now and its taken this to change me.
