Colds and operation ?
Hi Babs,
I am so sorry...how awful for you....your resistance is lower on chemo and what with you working... and have small children around you...it is hard to stay cold free I would imagine..
I am sorry I am not much help...you have six days though..so it might clear up by then..
I hope so..it is a good job you have already had your pre-op assessment..sending you love and best wishes at least I know what to pray for love x G x
Hi Babs to be honest if you have an infection they may unfortunately postpone the surgery but hope it does not come to that . There is still time for it to clear up before surgery . As Gwyn says unfortunately chemo puts you at high risk of infection .

Hi Babs
I would say dont worry - I was exactly the same before my op and very worried....
but on the day of my op I didn't say anything to the nurses and actually they didn't
seem to care that I was continually blowing my nose and the op went ahead.
Unless you feel really poorly nearer the time...i would just go ahead as planned.
You have six days yet and hopefully it will have cleared.
Sending you my best wishes
Angie xx
Dear Babs, I'm fairly sure they'll check your chest before considering an anasthetic. I'd be up-front about having had the cold so your anathesetist can make the decision. You certainly don't want any more complications at this stage.
I do know of women who've had to wait for an op for one reason or another and they are just put back as many weeks as necessary to resolve the problem. Personally I would phone the ward in the hospital to ask the nursing staff there. You don't want to have to starve yourself for 11/2 days beforehand just to find out it's not a good idea.
Also - try a dietary supplement - Berocca is very good as a pick-me-up, and echinacea drops to boost the immune system. To be honest, though, colds have a way of clearing themselves up in their own time.
Let us know how you're getting on and whether or not you're definitely going in next Monday. I'm sure it may well have cleared up by then. xxx Annie
Hi Babs
No words of wisdom for you but it could very well clear up in the next few days- fingers etc. all crossed!

Anne
Hi Babs
If it stays as just a cold there is no reason they won't operate, it's only if it turns into chest infection they would worry.
They will check you over pre-op, as long as temp ok and chest clear you should be ok.
Make sure you do the deep breathing exercises that the physio will give you post op so that chest stays clear.
Good luck and all the best for the op

Thanks for the reply I have now been told my white blood count is low and have to have more blood tests done tomorrow so may not have the op now on Monday feel pretty rotten now x x
Love Babs
Oh Babs,
I am sorry but just wait and see..sending you love and prayers x G x and a smiley
Hi Babs
I am so sorry to hear that your op may have to be delayed. It would be wise to wait for your blood counts to get back to normal levels to ensure a speedy recovery, I am sure you must feel realty gutted. Try & be positive & take it easy for the next few days & hopefully that may help get the blood counts to normal,
My prayers & best wishes are with you.
Lots of love, Samixa X
Hi Babs
What a b***er! I am sorry that you may have to wait for your op. however, they know what they are doing and if your cell count is low it could spoil your recovery. Try to think of the long term, when you will be through all this and feeling so much healthier. Sending you love n hugs and all good wishes
