Hi jurassic, I may be the one who mentioined it along with Cisplatin and cyclophosphamide for my 3rd line treatment. Difficult to say what the side effects are as it was used with the other two, I tolerated the regime quite well similar to the carbo/taxol, hair loss, nausea and mouth ulcers in the 3rd week of cycle. The chemo nurses said it was not as harsh as carbo/taxol. It arrested the active disease and shrunk the tumour quite a bit. I wish you the best as you set out on this, I am sure you will be Ok I had lots of anti nausea meds! lots of love Diane xxx

Thanks Diane. Yes I remember it was you now.

Hair loss doesn't matter I'm still wearing my wig from the last lot!!!

good to hear it shrank the tumour. One other question did you have to have a heart scan before you started it?

Best of luck to you.

Hi Diane,

Yes. The onc told me on Friday that this chemo may affect the heart not necessarily though!!!! I am having a scan sometime this week at the same time as ascites are being drained. That is a new experience for me. what fun we do have!!!

I wonder if they will give you a scan when you have completed your chemo?

Hi Diane,Different hospitals I suppose. I had a phone call a few hours ago telling me when to be there for the drainage. I asked about the scan and she knew nothing about it.

were you in overnight sorry about all these questions she told me to take an overnight bag.

Hi Marilyn,

With regards to being drained........i have had this procedure a couple of times(and am expecting to go again very soon for my 3rd :( ) At my hospital they drain the fluid relatively slowly so as not to shock your system.3 litres over 24 hours,so if you have more than 3 litres it can take a few days.

When you first get 'popped' the fluid gushes out like a tap but the relief is immediate, they will then shut the 'tap' off after 3 litres and release it again 24 hours later etc etc until it's pretty much stopped flowing.

Hope this helps and good luck with the procedure and any future treatment

Regards,Cindy xx

Hi Cindy,

Many thanks with the information about drainage. However nothing goes smoothly with me, I've just returned from the hospital after being there at 8oclock.A Professor did the scan and was going to do the drainage. He showed me all my various bits and pieces including the tumour which looked really black and nasty. At least I know what it looks like now for when I tell it to bog off but there was no fluid. What a anti climax. Apparently this does happen sometime. So picc line and new chemo next week.

Good luck with any future treatment you have.
