I have experienced pain on my Left side lower back/hip area for around 8 months, First they thought it was my appendix then just normal back pain, Around 2 months ago I went back to the doctors as the pain just gets worse and I told him it was always worse around the start and end of my period, He booked me in for an ultrasound and thought it might be endomitrisus, Two weeks before my ultrasound appointment my friend rushed me to A and E as I was in a lot of pain and could not even stand up, They checked me over and sent me to x ray, The doctor came back and said that I had a severe chest infection, gave me antibioctics and sent me home, that was the thursday, on the tuesday morning I got a call from my local doctor asking me to go to the surgery that day, He told me that my x rays had been passed to a surgeon who found a mass containing hair, teeth etc, I was in complete panic, I had never heard of any thing like this, anyway after two weeks of waiting I have had my ultrasound done where they found a 5cm Teratoma on my Left Ovary and a 3cm Teratoma on my Right. I saw the consultant the next day, who has taken bloods to check for CA 125 and lots of others and told me an MRI scan would be booked for two weeks, 24 hrs later at tea time I got a call to go in for my MRI scan the next morning, This is where I am now, completely worried and wondering why I got fast tracked for my MRI, I now have to wait for another consultant appointment and feel very confused and scared, So if anybody can please offer some advise I would be very grateful indeed.

Hi there
I am so sorry that you are going through this , what a nightmare it has been for you. Very sadly my opinion of some members of the medical profession isn't repeatable after a far less traumatic journey. Being diagnosed with something neither you or anybody you know has ever heard of is terrifying isn't it ?
I actually have a friend who has now emigrated to South Africa and had this diagnosis a few years ago. She had surgery and some very low grade treatment similar to chemotherapy, but didn't loose her hair. She is absolutely fine now , really enjoying life, even had another baby and fingers crossed so will you be.Many many of us come through something like this , but it's so hard at the time.
The specialist nurses on this site are really helpful and extremely knowledgeable, so perhaps consider giving them a call tomorrow. Hopefully your consultant appointment will be soon , but if you are really anxious give the consultant's secretary a call and ask if it can be brought forward.
I hope you get more answers soon.
Take care
Love

Dear Hope
I am sorry to hear of all the anxiety you are going through at the moment. The waiting and wondering is very difficult but although it is frightening to have everything being rushed through it will mean that you get answers more quickly. Please feel free to give us a ring at Ovacome to discuss this further if it would help 08453710554 Mon - Fri 10-5 ( but we are closed over the bank holiday)
Best Wishes
