At my Pilates class this morning, a lady told me that This Morning had done a piece on abdominal surgery and how this can have a longterm effect on your shoulders. I don't know whether this was part of Gynae Cancer Awareness Month. Tried to find it online with no success. Did anyone see it?
At Ovacome Day, a lady spoke about this too. That was the first time I'd heard it.
I have had severe shoulder problems (even before the cancer but much worse now) and just had an ultrasound and GP says damage is probably irreversible. I know that chemo can have a detrimental effect on bones and teeth. If I was warned about this, I didn't really take it in.
Incidentally, does anyone know if anyone (TV/paper) is highlighting gynae/ovarian cancer as part of the Awareness Month? Or will it pass unnoticed like last year?
xx

I do the weekly class that Ovacome put on with Sarah Russell (mixture of strengthening/conditioning/balancing, and floor pilates),and apart from finding her and her classes beneficial and enjoyable, she points out to us on a regular basis about shoulder injuries and looking after them, related to post abdomen surgery, and offers ways to personalise the exercises she shows us.
She also stays on at the end to answer any specific questions we have
It's a very gentle class and I would highly recommend

I have not heard that abdominal surgery causing shoulder problems. I had to have rotator cuff repair on both shoulders (a year apart), but I always chalked it up to chemo damage and inactivity while I was ill. It does make sense though, because your core muscles keep your whole body in alignment. I will look into that!
I can tell a difference in my teeth—I have chipped a couple of my lower teeth since completing my last treatment. I need to get them fixed, but I just haven’t yet because I’m tired of appointments and procedures, ya know?
Ovarian Cancer awareness month is March in the UK (September in the US and Canada). March (well, February really) is the time we need to be chivvying local papers etc.
