Hello All

We've been asked to share the following information regarding a clinical trial:

ACTOv is a clinical trial investigating a new personalised treatment approach to treat ovarian cancer that has relapsed (returned after previously receiving platinum chemotherapy treatment). The new treatment approach, known as ‘Adaptive Therapy (AT)’, aims to prevent the cancer from becoming resistant to chemotherapy, whilst also reducing side effects. AT involves changing the dose of chemotherapy given to an individual participant based on how their tumour responds to the treatment over time.

How a tumour responds to treatment is assessed using a protein called CA125 which is found in the blood of ovarian cancer patients.

In AT if the level of CA125 has decreased, the carboplatin dose will be reduced at the next treatment cycle; and if the level of CA125 has increased, then the carboplatin dose will be increased at the next treatment cycle.

TRIAL DESIGN

ACTOv is a randomised trial, meaning that participants will be allocated to one of the two trial groups by a computer at random with a 50/50 chance of being in either group. There will be 40 patients in both groups

1. STANDARD THERAPY (CONTROL): In this group, participants receive the usual standard of care, which is six cycles of the same standard dose of carboplatin.

2. ADAPTIVE THERAPY (AT): In the AT group, participants receive twelve cycles with tailored doses of carboplatin depending on their individual response to the treatment. Response to treatment will be measured after each treatment cycle using a blood test to determine the level of CA125 present in the blood.

All participants taking part in the trial will be followed up by the trial team every 3 months for 1 year after the end of their last trial treatment.

HOW TO TAKE PART

The ACTOv trial is currently open to recruitment at the following hospitals in the UK:

• University College London Hospital (UCLH), London

• St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London

• Western General Hospital, Edinburgh

• The Christie Hospital, Manchester

• Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, Wirral

• Velindre Cancer Centre, Cardiff

• Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton

• Worthing Hospital, Worthing

• Royal United Hospital, Bath

The trial team are planning to open the trial at a further 2 UK sites over the coming months.

If you are interested in taking part in the ACTOv trial, please speak to your doctor to discuss your options and see if you would be eligible to take part.

Never even received a response or even an acknowledgement.

Is there any wonder there still seeking candidates several months after the trial started?
