Caelyx

I finished 6 cycles of carboplatin/paclitaxel at end Oct and it seemed to have really worked on the cancer that is in my liver and peritoneum so following advice of my oncologist I’ve had a break as I’ve been on chemo of some kind or other since Sept 21. After a scan and in Dec he talked about me having weekly paclitaxel after the break. I saw him today and he said that it’s not good news. The disease has spread further in my liver and peritoneum so he is now treating me with caelyx which will be once every 28 days

can anyone advise me as to side effects, is it like carbo/paclitaxel….bad for a week then you start to recover in time for the next session?

Big thanks

Hi Skyeplus sorry to hear this but the same happened to me and I was put on caelyx you have to be careful not to touch anything hot and my side effects wereI was sick for a few days and felt very tired but towards the end of the week started to feel better. It did help my cancer and then I was put on maintenance tablets! Unfortunately for me these didn’t work and now back on chemo! But all our journeys are different and hopefully this works for you. Sending good thoughts to you stay positive x

Hi skyeplus, I'm currently having carboplatin and caelyx and after the first one I did feel ill 🤒 but my oncologist reduced the amount given to me. The only side effects I felt were itchy skin and thrush. I was given some moisturiser cream especially for the itchiness, which was on both my legs but the thrush was a problem because it triggered my eczema on my private parts. Everything one is different and hopefully you'll sail through it. I'll just add the treatment I had in February wasn't too bad, my thrush and eczema as cleared up and my legs are okay because the cream they gave me is brilliant. Best of luck with the treatment and I hope it works for you. 🤗 Xxxx.

Hi just had my first Caelyx after recurrence. In lymph nodes. Been ok have been tired and had tummy and back pain. But that's sorted with hot water bottles and paracetamol. Had few down days end of first week but picking up now in the second week. Hoping to get couple of good weeks before round 2. Fingers crossed it stays that way. Good luck and hope you do OK.

I have just finished six cycles of Caelyx and it wasn't too bad for me. A big plus was keeping my hair and although the nausea lasted longer than with Paclitaxel and Carboplatin it was manageable with Akinseo for the first few days. It did make my skin very dry so I used lots of body oils and creams and a hemp hand cream on my hands and rubbed into my nails. A heavy-duty hard skin cream on my feet proved essential. After the fourth cycle I had an itchy, spotty face but that might have been from Carboplatin as I became allergic to that about then. The Caelyx does make you very tired and it affected my neutrophils but in general I found it easier to cope with and I felt more at ease getting on with everyday life than with Paclitaxel. I hope all goes well for you.

Hello Skyeplus, sorry your disease cameback.

Please note we are all different and it might be even easier for you the Caelyx/ carbo then is for me.The doctors told me in the beginning that was very well tolerated this chemo.

Side effects in my case( I'm going for the 4 th round of 6, next week):

- was able to keep my hair, that almost erase all other side effects!

- the 4-5 days after treatment is like chemo, with nausea high, tiredness , general bad feeling and goes better each day.

- swollen and painful foot

- skin very dry and kind of dark/ yellowish ( some dark spots appeared in my face) they prescribed me a cream made in the pharmacy.

- like the other ladies mentioned :a must to mosturize very well your feet, hands and all body because is just so dry and prompt to eczema and itchi.

- I use only cotton close near to the body and nothing tight because doctors told could irritate the skin

- had some big issues with my colon( got a partial obstruction - hospital stay 2 weeks) that caused high amount of pain in my tummy.Last treatment the pain in the tummy was again high so I'm staying in the hospital a few days after treatment next week.

- lost huge ammount of weight ( trying to recover)

Overall has been much easier then taxol/ carbo .The side effects let me work full time( behind a desk/ pc) and hope in Spring if my feet get better can go back for walks with my doggies.

Best wishes for your journey Xxx

I found Caelyx to be ok. I suffered with very dry hand and couple of mouth ulcers but nothing too serious. It did its job and took care of the spread in my peritoneum. I’ve been ned since 2019.

Good luck to you
